Dont believe the daily service update my office has failed everyday this week but is not on the list on any day,seems the figures are doctored a little.

The list is a of a manipulation of the truth.
I believe the criteria is if an office reports fails 30% or ⅓ of delivery points on 3 consecutive days then it's on the list.
So very roughly speaking, an office with 30 walks needs to fail the equivalent of 10 full walks plus a little more 3 times in a row to get on the list.

We're all smart enough to work out a number of honest and less than honest ways the ComDoms could avoid getting on it.

As much as I hate all the compliance for the sake of compliance tasks we have to undertake now one task I would be happy to have on the end of my day is to report on my PDA precisely what has failed on my delivery

You have to think how bad are the offices that are actually on the list. Few guys at my office got sent to Bromley and they said there was mail everywhere and not once have they been on the list.

I wonder how long that list would be if it included part walks as well

Theoretically it could/ should as it's failed Delivery points across the whole office not just number of full failures.

One obvious way for managers to manipulate the figures is to look at a walk of say 1000 DPs but it's a light day but still the ComDom can only manage to get a row taken out and is left with 75% of the walk uncovered.

(in reality it will be a higher % because not all rows are equal, and a smart postie will find a balance between take the known easiest bit but the the eye with no knowledge or brains behind it sees a huge amount of work being done)

The 75%, 750 delivery points, is what should be reported

Of that 75% let's imagine only 40% of DPs have mail in the frame (the ComDoms eye can't see the multiple sacks of small parcels and yorks of oversized)

The 40%, 300 delivery points, holding mail in reality is all that gets reported as a failure.

And just like the ComDom has more than halved their failure rate!
Nothing RM management like more than manipulation of numbers.

Thats why managers will pressure you to take the whole walk out, so they can pass it as clear. Even though you know it is in no way achieveable and you will almost certainly be bringing back a good chunk of it. Theres others ways to manipulate the figures but i think that is one of the more common ones.

One day not too many weeks ago it was my regular managers day off, the cover was walking around the office with a look of absolute confusion and disbelief at what he was seeing.

Turns out that what had been reported the previous day was just 2 part failures. It reality it was 26! I can't remember the part/ full breakdown
