My point of view: postal crisis

Post by royalanneb »

What the customer wants :
A regular postie. Some posties have been on the same round for many years. The customer values and appreciates this service.
A tracked 24 and special delivery service that has a 99.8 % success rate for urgent deliveries and letters.
I think that customers would be happy with 1st class post being delivered within 2 days and a 97% success rate.
I think that customers would be happy with 2nd class Mail being delivered within 4 days and a 97% success rate.

Therefore forget about adding absorptions. Get mail frames back to the size they were in 2018. 1 postie covers 2 walks. 1 walk 1 day with all tracked 24 and specials for the 2 walks. The other walk the day 2 and taking all tracked 24 and specials for both walks.

Too much time is wasted with a postie going to 100’s of front doors with just one letter compared to 2 or 3 letters 10 years ago. Too much mail is being left in a frame due to sickness and no staff to cover. When someone posts a 1st class letter they do not want it delivered 7 days later.
Yes it’s difficult for a manager to take a good postie with good attendance of his regular round to cover a round that hasn’t gone out for 3 days.Royal Mail have high quality experienced staff that deserve to work for a company with a much better success rate. Reward and value staff with good attendance records.
Make Royal Mail more efficient by making posties cover less ground but deliver more post.

Good idea but if it worked give it a year and they would come looking to see how they could cut costs to make more profits

Non drivers are definitely not in the future plans for this company..."We are moving from a letters business to a parcels business".

Parcels require a vehicle to do the job, and you need a driver to operate the vehicle.

Apart from the minimal indoor jobs, where do non drivers fit in the future plans?

Royal Mail would never have enough vehicles for every duty to have its own van. With DPRs and supposed later starts which will impact onto collections.

Seems two in a van is here to stay.

Some offices don’t have two in a van.
We haven’t had it in ours for about 6 years now.
Best move ever as well. Lose so much efficiency with two in a van at all times.

Is all that Boden crap and cruise brochures USO covered? If this could be delivered just once or twice a week rather than every day they would shave hours.

"What the customer wants"

When the boardroom considers this, I'm fairly sure that 'the customer' is the sender, lender and shareholder.....and even the sender doesn't get much of a look-in.
