With talk of potential admin, which reading between the lines from some of the stuff coming out the union, seems a very realistic outcome are you thinking of jumping before it comes? I'm torn, because if the worst happens it's an awful lot of people suddenly unemployed at once who are probably gonna be going for similar type jobs. On the other hand I think I'd get a few thousand quid redudancy from the governmemt so it might be worth waiting.

It's such a terrible time. The office morale is absolutely on the floor, with our calve up being rammed through. Loads of very senior people becoming floats and having to argue about their rest days. The paired walks are ludacrously huge now. All this going on with a backdrop of us wondering if the whole company is going south anyway. Genuinely loved this job, and still do in many ways. Managers know the revision is unachieveable, so generally don't mind about people cutting off as long as you are actually trying so we may be lucky in that respect. Just can't help but think it may be best to get out before the worst comes though.

If things go tits up next week there will still be millions of items of mail to deal with so there would be a few weeks of work left what a sad affair that we're even thinking about it eh

Pretty sure the UK Gov wouldnt just let the mail stop, the gates wont be locked and we wont just be shoved out the door, well not to begin with anyway, administrator would have to be brought in and take it from there. Maybe then you might finally see what they have been up to all along or maybe we are giving them to much credit and they are every bit as daft as i think they are.

They'll have to be a postal service of some kind. The job of the administrator, though, is to make the business appealing to any potential buyer. If the administrator turns round and says to the government the only way to sell this business is to cut the universal service in half, and bring our pay in line with other couriers then they'll do that in my opinion.

I have a landing pad. The longer I can continue with RM without hating existence, the better, but if I decide I'm done tomorrow... I will go.

I also agree with the sentiment that no matter how severely the company collapses, there will be some work available in some form, for some time. Even if they immediately sold off all non letter items or something, we'd have enough work to keep going for a bit, giving us time to make our moves, whatever those are.

Still, the ideal would be a recovery of the company we loved but it just looks unlikely now.

If they done that then the government would have to come up with new mail centres and delivery offices and distribution centres

I have my doubts. Get the feeling they don't give a s**t for the mail centres, thus the parcel hubs. Bet they'd abandon the mail centres to the government and try to steal their hubs away for GLS. But who really knows. Meteor could take out HQ tomorrow, I don't know and nor do you.

But conspiracy aside, any result will take time. Time to plan, adapt, move on, retire... Depending on who you are. I don't think even the worst outcomes will be an "unemployed tomorrow". I'd reckon a couple of months at the bare minimum, and that is much more than less "important to infrastructure" jobs might get.
