Wake up team, you are losing your staff

Post by Shirtbuttons »

Never in all my years have I seen so many long time full timers leave this job. I’m talking about under 50 year olds with 10, 20 and 30 years plus in the job.
I have a big office and every month without fail 1 more leaves. Part timers with a few years too are leaving. These are all hard grafters too and kept their noses clean. An asset to the firms they have gone to. We have just lost another 2 this week. 15 and 10 years service and under 40 years old.
Wake up and sort this mess out. As my manager said at this rate we won’t have any staff left. :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave

RM would prefer to have a completely flexible, pliable, unquestioning workforce.

They don’t care. They’re happy to have short staffed offices and fail multiple duties as a result, as long as the lapsing and tracked get done.

By the time I retire I will have done 40 years, I can't leave early as this would permanently reduce my pension, I rather leave with full benefits.

There was an item on the Radio 4 Today program yesterday about how employers are finding it increasingly difficult to fill vacancies. A CEO of a recruitment agency said it was men in their 50s who are leaving the labour market. They did some research into the reasons and got responses like 'I would work for £20 ph, not £9.60, 'It's not worth working for minimum wage after deductions' and 'it's the way we are treated now at work'.

These 'missing' employees are not shown in unemployment statistics as they don't register for unemployment benefits.I assume that is because some will have received a perhaps reduced company pension, or they get another type of benefit.

This would mean there are vacancies for younger people to move into, and opportunities for RM staff who are generally regarded as having a good work ethic to get jobs with other employers.

I've been here 7 years and I'm starting to look at other jobs. I enjoy the job while out delivering, but in the office it's got worse since I've joined. The main reasons I'm wanting to leave are negative colleagues - constantly moaning over the smallest things, Not being able to book annual leave when you want, and the pay isn't as good as it used to be. Have to work 6 days now to get an ok wage. Also I'm so physically tired outside of work I can't do things I enjoy such as football or cycling. There's just so much negativity in the office it's quite a depressing place to work. Don't really know what the solution is, but unfortunately cannot see it changing anytime soon.

You probably won't be missed.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
