Hi, find below the Mount Pleasant bulletin of 4 May. Comments are welcome, as usual!

WE'RE NOT PLAYING GAMES
RM are really playing games over the pay deal: we've
been told so far that there's a "choice"! 2% with short
strings, or 3.5% with long strings! Is this a joke? The
strings we already guessed, like Sunday working, two-tier
workforce, annualised hours, all sorts of disguised
cuts, and ways to cut overtime payments. It's obvious
that we cannot agree to any of this, and that we will
need to go on strike.

NO DEALS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!
On top of that, it was a "closed" offer, meaning that the
details had to be "leaked". There are more talks this
week apparently, with the union saying "unless Royal
Mail give us an inflation no strings pay deal by Friday (6
May) we will serve the 4 weeks notice under the DRP
process and commence a ballot for strike action..." Why
wait?

STRONGER TOGETHER
Crown Post Office workers from 114 offices were on
strike on Tuesday! But why on earth aren't we all out
with them? The bosses have all offered rotten pay
rises, and the best way to fight them is together! As yet,
the PO haven't got more strike days organised, so we
can do that together.

WE DON'T AGREE!
It's definitely a good thing that the local branch is trying
to keep us informed about what's going on over the
"friction" with management "over the last few weeks"
with regard to the PSM-related job cuts (or as
management calls them, "Voluntary Redundancies").
We assume that they agree with us that these job cuts
are out of the question?

SIMPLE, REALLY
From what we understand reading the union newsletter,
it says that we can expect "25-39 duties" being cut and
the branch is meant to "jointly look at the problem areas
and look at staff resourcing levels". Well, outside of the
branch, we've looked. And we can say that the problem
is: not enough of us anywhere. So the "next steps" as
far as we are concerned, is that "staff resourcing levels"
should be increased everywhere!

POKER FACES NEEDED
But of course, we're told that the Parcel Sorting Machine
was needed to "secure" HMP's future. We have heard
this old story from the bosses' mouths so many times: "if
you don't accept cuts and keep up with Amazon, the
place will close". Are there still union officials taken in
by this bluff? Maybe they should be reminded that the
bosses need us more than we need them?!

THEIR INTERESTS AND OURS
We're also told that we must be "grateful" that HMP
secured the DSA work from Romford (over 1m items per
week!) because "this does improve our overall efficiency
score"! Well no, we aren't grateful. Managers moved
workmates to earlies to cope with DSA and left other
areas even more understaffed. Yes, increasing the
"efficiency score" means more work on our backs, more
bonuses for management and more profits for big
shareholders..!

FAILING IS THEIR MOTTO
So yet again, after a bank holiday the workload goes
through the roof. You'd think that after so many years,
management would have realised that this is what
happens after each long weekend, but not at Royal
Mayhem, apparently...

"GO @$£&%^ YOURSELF!"
So we're told there's a new policy to phone us, even
when we're on short term sick leave. Apparently this is
because there are more people off sick and it's not just
here, but in all workplaces - there's long covid, and then
there's people who left on EVR and there's been no
recruitment. So if management think that making
(more) unpleasant enquiries over the phone, is going to
help, fine, but they should prepare themselves for what
they're going to hear down the line.

IGNORAMUS MAGNANIMUS
As for forcing us into medical retirement, that's one that
we've heard before as well, especially on letters! Some
managers keep thinking they know better than our GPs,
which is a bit sad, really.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE
All platform workers were shown an H&S video last
week… does that have anything to do with the lorry that
hit the ceiling on the west platform by any chance? No
doubt managers were just covering their backs, but
showing us a video isn't going to change the height of
the roof…

YOU'D HAVE THOUGHT THEY'D TELL PEOPLE
The reason that a certain type of truck crashed into the
ceiling, is that the west platform roof is too low! But why
is this still not sorted? So new drivers, who are
expecting their vehicles to fit into a RM loading bay
could still end up having a crash?!

WE SHOULD PUT THEM IN A "TIGHT SPOT"
When it comes to H&S, the situation, vis-a-vis the new
Parcel Sorting Machine, seems to be quite dodgy. The
floor might hold up when they put it in, but has anyone
actually considered how much space there'll be around
it for us to work?

DUMBO'S "SORTIES"
We're pleased to see that the Elephant has taken to
flying off every so often during working hours, with a
helper. Is it to go and fetch products? We don't know,
but we're glad to have such regular breaks from him.

RM and Post Office are two completely separate companies, the Post Office got spit out of the RM group a good few years ago
