As long as you declare it you will be ok however if you are a professional driver be careful not to break your driving hours which are 56 A week or 90 over a fortnight

Surely a conflict of interest and wouldn't be allowed. Argos would be regarded as a competitor to Royal Mail, as they have chosen to use their own fleet of vehicles and drivers rather than giving the delivery business to Royal Mail.

Funnily enough, I was thinking about this earlier. Maybe this would be something RM would give in the pay rise/deal to allow us to supplement our wages?
It would be doubly good to let us see how hard the other half have it!

In all seriousness, I think they don't want to even risk the chance that another couriers product ends up our vans, but surely things like that already happen in rural areas etc?

Personally I'd just take the job and sod RM. I'd take Shuse's advice about drivers hours, as it's a legal requirement, and basically common sense.

I wouldn't tell ANYONE (that avoids those back stabbing colleagues that just love to drop you in the shite) It's easier to Ask Forgiveness than it is to Get Permission.

56 a week? How do they calculate how many hours youve driven? For example, would doing a 5 hour delivery = 5 hours driving? When obviously 90% of it is spent walking.

Mr Shuse is in Blue (which is mail centre/processing) so he's not likely to be delivering mail. He's talking about a solely driving job/hours.

You’re not even allowed to do any paid work if you decide to take time off on a career break. I’m thinking of taking 6 months off before I decide to leave or not next year and was told about this and it is in the terms and conditions on the application form.

Yes, it's written in RM Business Standards - Employees Guide - Conflicts Of interest.

We all got an A5 size copy through the post in the last year or so. I doubt RM would let anybody plead ignorance
by saying they didn't get a copy.
