Hi folks.
I joined Royal Mail back in 2014 on a 21 hour contract.
This has always suited me as it was an early morning start and a finish of (no later than) 2.30pm
I'm now being pressured into starting later so they can incorporate a collection at the end of my walk, meaning a finish of 5 or 6pm.
So far I've declined their "offer" but I'm now getting more and more pressure into doing this.
Can they insist (force me) to accept this change?
TIA

Re: Change of contract hours
How can you do a delivery and a collection on a 21 hour contract? You must have tiny deliveries or you will be cutting off everyday. Have you spoken to your rep? If you’re a reserve I'm not sure about your attendance patterns I’m sure someone in the know can tell you.

Re: Change of contract hours
I know this.
You know this.
You know what Royal Mail is like. Time doesn't exist.
The walk I'm on is timed at 5 hours.
Prep/loading 30 minutes.
Van check 10 minutes.
Travel time 20 minutes.
Break 40 minutes.
= 1hr 40min
If anyone can explain to me how it's supposed to work, I'm all ears.

Re: Change of contract hours
I can’t answer your question exactly but maybe this helps a bit; 5 weeks ago as part of the revision I was offered a 4 day week instead of 25 hours spread over 5 days.
Then last week a manager texted me to say due to business requirements I was going to have to go back to 5 days. I took a bit of advice from this board, got in touch with the union and also told my line manager if they are changing my contract I’ll need 28 days notice.
They’ve since said they’ll look again at things in the new year. In short, talk to your union rep, and regardless of if they can help you or not you get 28 days notice anyway. Not sure what your financial situation is but I’ve found working to my time and no longer doing OT every single day means they are more reluctant to add lapsing or add collections on.
It always seems like a game of chess and I just play the game.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I'm all for "working to rule"
I've already told them that, if they continue, I'll just do everything by the book.

The revisions have made most of us do this in our office...StuartHanley wrote: ↑27 Nov 2021, 14:34I'm all for "working to rule"

One agreement, can't rem which one states that contract hr's will not be forced up or down if not wanted.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

But then the next step would be extra hrs that are clearly not wanted.
