Compensation for lost packets?

Post by deristrong »

I send out about six packets a day and occasionally the recipient says it didn't get there. Usually I just refund them and forget it but I reckon there's a few chancers out there. Seeing as they all have a 2D barcode i'm assuming Royal Mail could confirm delivery? I realise it would only apply to UK destinations.Otherwise what's the point of me scanning these things every day?

They should be scanned at the door, but be aware that this is not always done.

sometimes they can't be scanned as they're smudged or crumpled on a jiffy bag even put on corners of boxes so the 2d code goes round a corner :arrrghhh

Yes it's good practice to ensure the label is totally flat no creases or it won't scan, also if a drop of rain lands on the 2d it'll smudge and become unable to scan so on the rare occasions I send something I tend to stick sellotape over the 2d barcode, it all helps.

My wife uses Hermes  :silenced :whistle :nervous due to the tracking and up to £20 compensation, depending on size £2.95 under 1k, £5.35 over 1k.
Royal Mail 2nd class signed for up to possibly 2kg (needs checking) she says £4.20 she uses if it goes to Ireland.

Sad times but she says it's cheaper and of course the tracking and compo, plus it's cheaper for the customer as well.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
