Minimum wage going up...

Post by norris9 »

Does the minimum wage going up usually mean us Posties also get a pay rise?

How is the minimum wage changing?
The minimum wage increases are set to take effect from 1 April next year:

National Living Wage for over-23s: from £8.91 to £9.50 an hour
National Minimum Wage for those aged 21-22: from £8.36 to £9.18
National Minimum Wage for 18 to 20-year-olds: from £6.56 to £6.83
National Minimum Wage for under-18s: from £4.62 to £4.81
The Apprentice rate: from £4.30 to £4.81

knew someone would be funny and ask this.

if the minimum wage goes up a certain % then it makes sense for our wages to go up the same %. It's happened in other companies i've worked for. So was hopeful it will have a positive impact on our wages going up in April too.

We have Terry at the helm.
It is advisable not to be hopeful at any stage of the negotiations.

I’m not being funny. Your wages won’t be going up.

I reckon Royal Mail should already be in talks with CWU in regards with our pay rise. However as mentioned above unfortunately minimum wage going up would have nothing to do with it. I am afraid that cwu leaders have gone underground in recent months so I guess time will tell what CWU are really worth.
I expect nothing as recent trend is ruthless. Each year we work harder and become worse off financially. Maybe this is the goal of royal mail to push people out the door and replace them with zero hours guys or pay as close to a minimum wage as possible. Good luck finding anybody half decent who will actually stay in the job long term the way it is now.

they said that negotiations will start soon, probably to be concluded with 6 months back pay and all those who leave between april and whenever they agree won't get a penny
got to love their negotiating skills, anyone with any savvy would start and create a deadline but no doubt uncle terry will wait for the summer lapsing to start for rm to say it's been a tough few months and we've got no money, uncle terry will agree to a sub inflation rate of increase with a £50 bonus for anyone who hasn't had an holiday pay claim in and then tell us they've done a fantastic job under the current climate

Knowing Terry he will probably negotiate a pay decrease and come out all guns blazing on a Facebook live session saying what an amazing job him and negotiators have done. The mans a moron and every time I see him speak it astounds me he’s in such a high profile job.

Just imagine if Terry was your defence lawyer in a criminal case, he would get you off with a hanging.

As mentioned in a previous post the next pay rise to be negotiated, April 2022, will probably incorporate the next hour reduction to the working week (October 2022?). This will account for circa 2.6% of any increase in pay.
