RMCtv : Day in the Life Of (DILO) begins roll out : More than one million hours already saved in admin time for managers
Day in the Life Of (DILO) begins roll out
Stop. Streamline. Simplify.
The DILO project is all about giving our frontline delivery managers trust and time.
Making sure they have time to spend with their teams on the things that matter most to our performance and trusting them to make the right decisions for our customers.
It starts to deploy nationally from today, and with more than one million hours already saved in admin time, it has great potential to change how we all work.
Watch Simon Thompson introducing the launch to delivery managers and think about what you could do differently.
At great expense I can now extract the text so you can now read what is said, you lucky people!
Simon Thompson
So team when I first started in my role as CEO, i made it my priority to get out and about and talk to our operational teams and.
you know, I will be continuing to do this at least once a week as we roll forward, and I really wanted to understand your issues.
and I wanted to understand what you felt we could do differently to reinvent royal mail together, and you've always been very happy, to tell me what you think and the first thing that hit home was the sheer degree of bureaucracy, duplication, and administration that was experienced by our delivery office managers every day.
You didn't have time to do your job because you were busy fulfilling the demands of everybody else's job and the lists of tasks was endless, it went on and on and on and to me, it just didn't seem right.
How can we win trust on the doorstep when we don't trust the people who are responsible for delivering it.
And so a day in the life of or as you will now know it DILO was born.
And I remember my ask was a really simple one pick a delivery office manager and tell them to stop doing everything and just do what they think is the right thing to do, ask them to spend time on what matters to them and what matters to their team and what matters to our customers.
And most importantly. we also looked at ourselves, how can we support them better? how can we work differently in order to trust our managers more?
So today, I'm really excited to officially launch the rollout of DILO.
We said we do it by the end of October this year, and i do think there are few people doubted it, but here it is.
And it started as a germ of an idea, but with the help of anna in Sale, martin in Stockport and Fabio in marble.
as well as hundreds of other managers who have given their great ideas and feedback, we've now taken more than one million hours, one million hours out of the delivery office managers' day.
And that's just a start that number's going to increase.
This project has been created by you and it's been created for you.
And now I want you to make the most of it.
We are going to trust you to do the right thing for our customers and for our team over to you.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Previously on RMC.
On Workplace...
Day in the Life Of (DILO) group
A group where you can post if you have an idea for something that can be stopped, streamlined or simplified.
I personally think it should be called...
Day In the Life of a Delivery Office (DILDO) group.
We could have a Coming Up with New Trends group.
We could be here all day...
Simon Thompson : Earnings Call Transcript
I mentioned at the start that we also need to trust our managers more. We are in the process of simplification within our business. This particular initiative is called DILO or Day in the Life of. It's very much focused on our delivery office managers that lead our 90,000-plus frontline teams.
We were asking them to do 126 things a day. That's something every four minutes we were asking them to adhere to 212 policies. We've had an initiative running in sale in Manchester where we're allowing the team, the leader of that team to spend time focusing on issues of the customer, to spend time with their team, to make sure that our health and safety is in perfect shape. We're asking them to focus on doing the right thing, including reducing our policies whilst also keeping ourselves safe from 212 down to 20.
In all of our 1,300 offices by the end of October we will have implemented these new ways of working. A big thank you to team Unite who have been very, very supportive and very proactive with us on this particular topic.

Why don't Anna and Martin have capital letters?
Is Fabio (who does have a capital letter) carved from marble? Is he about 17 ft tall like David?

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

It's quite unbelievable that not one person has taken Simon to one side and said "ya know, we need to work on this acronym. Those pesky, banter loving wags the posties are just bound to call it DILDO."
Who exactly is advising this man?
Sooner or later, a beat dog bites.

Aren't they going to need lapsing now to take them up to their 12.30pm finish time?

Great so let me get this straight
The frontline delivery workers get told we werent doing enough, get a revision forced upon us piling more onto an already unachievable workload, more pressure, just as our busiest time of the year approaches
And the managers are getting told that our CEO wants them to do LESS as they had too much work to do before
Cheers Simon
Great to be part of the 'team'
