Seatbelts : Stupid is as stupid does...
Road Safety Manager at Royal Mail Group
These photos were shared with me today, taken recently in yards at 3 Delivery Offices.
I've seen similar before but it always shocks me that some people will risk their lives to save a few seconds. It's pointless, illegal and a breach of our safety policy.
If you do this PLEASE think about the possible consequences and how this would affect not just you, but your family, friends, colleagues, and members of the emergency services who have to attend. Is it really worth it?
If you see a colleague doing this PLEASE challenge them ... you might just save their life.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I remember being trained on a rural, it was 8 miles to the start of the round through heavy traffic, took a good 35/40 minutes to get there....all the way there that chuffing beeping noise, all so he could save 5 seconds.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Guy in ours who I’m thankfully rarely paired with doesn’t wait until you have fully got in the van before he starts flooring it. Feels like we are robbing houses not delivering parcels.

I used to do this when I was doing a route that was firms only. Never traveled more and 40 metres before arrive at next delivery point. Perfectly legal to not wear a seatbelt if your only driving a certain short distance but I've seen posties do it when driving off on a 3 mile journey.

Yeah, it's in the Highway Code. "Exemptions are allowed for the holders of medical exemption certificates and those making deliveries or collections in goods vehicles when travelling less than 50 metres (approx 162 feet)". https://www.highwaycodeuk.co.uk/rules-f ... aints.htmlpostman2014 wrote: ↑24 Sep 2021, 18:42I used to do this when I was doing a route that was firms only. The other trick is pulling the passenger seatbelt across and putting it into your own buckle. Silly! If you're cutting corners with this, what else are you cutting corners with?

It may be legal but it is against the RM drivers policy. If you are a driver then you should have read it and be aware of that.postman2014 wrote: ↑24 Sep 2021, 18:42I used to do this when I was doing a route that was firms only. I can understand not wearing it driving say 50m up to the next house on a quiet lane but not wearing one all the way back to the office on say a 60mph road, and STILL leaving it plugged in for management to discover is stupid beyond belief

Re: Seatbelts : Stupid is as stupid does...
A guy in our office went to the breakers yard and got the bit off an old seat belt that he carried around in his pocket to stop the beeping when not wearing his seat belt.
He's retired now.
