I assume that if you are off work for an extended period sick and during that time your some of your allocated holidays are due that it's just tough and they are lost or is that not the case?

If off sick your holidays dont get used up. Think its EU law that you cant relax (on holiday leave) if you recuperating (on sick leave).
I believe Covid is a different thing. If you are on holiday whilst isolating i think its tough luck.
