i get paid(not work)8hrs
he gets paid and works 6 hrs

i should be more senior



as we all know differance between full time and part time is the 2 hrs ips paid for.but in my do it takes about 45 minutes(more money for nothing)does that make you more important than a part timer getting paid for 6 hours or 5 hrs...and a s we all know how work shy some are at ips time...quick 30minutes toilet breaks or not even bothering to leave their frame in my office...

fairer system to work out seniority go on sick days....less sick days more senior....cos lets face it part timers are less likely to go sick cos were paid less ..why should you be senior yet take extra weeks off for ingrowing hair

That would be great because I have 6 years in and NO sick days so I move to the top of the list . Maybe you should think before you type (and while I'm on that could you please learn to spell and to use proper grammar).

I'm part-time and I would struggle. The job does not pay enough for people to do it, when they first start part-time. I work full-time hours by coming in earlier doing my own sorting. The job is good, but it's just not viable for a person with a family. I've seen at least one good person leave since I started a year ago, on the basis of the pay: she liked the job but: you have to live. By comparison a little bird tells me that in Pakistan, postal workers are treated poorly: they can expect to bring in about Rs.300 (£2.60) a week for doing the same job that we do. Consequently, postmen there are looked down upon and only do the (low) job because they can't get any other work.

But seriously, isn't it strange how countries like Pakistan and India can spend billions of £ or $ on nuclear power and weapons, but can't afford to pay workers a decent living wage. You couldn't even buy a pint of beer for that in this country. This country is pretty sh** as well, before anyone thinks I'm having a go at them.

Well said I take pride in my postie job aswell been a postie for nearly 15 years did the buy down 3 years ago 40 hrs to 28 hrs & I agree most off the p/t walks are longer & heavier than the f/t dutys ,I see f/t posties going past me a good hour before I finish, but a resign due soon fingers crossed & I am fairly high on seniorty list so I will defo get better walk, What I love is no Ips & the p/t walks are prepped so in tie up & out & I don't have to start till 8am great when you have young children.

To get this back on track somewhat, I think a lot of people here still have a huge amount of pride in the job ( and that includes reluctant part timers - ie, those like me that want 40 hrs contracts ). It helps somewhat imho that there are always people I deliver to, that are always pleased to see me ( and some I would cheerfully defenestrate from Canary Wharf ).... but are there any ideas on how I could get my rep to argue for a raise in my ( and other PTs ) hours?
