Thanks for that - wondered what happened to our intrepid duo .NWpostie wrote:found out what happened to the car, hit a wall and looks like nobody was hurt.

Remember seeing this on telly , " On the Buses " Film - Stan Butler after demolishing a wall is sent to do a skid test . Quality is not so good , looks if someone has used a camera to record off the telly screen ; but it's better than nothing . Stephen Lewis the actor who played Blakey used to do a lot of his own stunts

I remember it well! When you went into a 'wet' seam, the first thing you did was see the duputy and get your name in his book for wet money. 35p it was...a shift.solcat wrote: Many moons ago when I worked down the Pit we had Wet Money and Heat money allowances even though it did have to be extreme, for the cold a Donkey Jacket I think that sums it up.

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
We've carried on delivering in the snow, although in fairness we haven't had as much as many parts of the country. We've been told not to deliver anywhere that looks too dangerous, which round here is fair enough.
On Saturday, it was snowing when we came in, so we'd got fresh snow over compacted snow and ice, and the roads hadn't been gritted, so it took a while for them to clear (they were well gritted during the week). Our DIM decided it was too dangerous for us drivers to deliver packets, so instead, we delivered the bags (she asked the posties to take as many bags themselves as possible - some agreed!
), the specials and tracked items, but the normal packets stayed in.
Instead of the packets, we ended up doing half a walk each. Basically, the 'too dangerous to deliver packets' was a ruse to get two walks covered. I reluctantly agreed after getting clarification that I could claim if I went over. Good job I did, seeing as I was over by 1 hr 15 min! Will be claiming 1 hr 30 min though, to cover the amount I was over by during the week...
Not to mention another claim for tomorrow for delivering two days worth of packets. And the snow round here has thawed considerably, so that can't be used as an excuse!

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
Well , I've been stuck at home for 5 days now !
I don't have a car , and the only bus service that comes through the village has been suspended since Wednesday. I've not been able to get to work at all but have phoned in every day (Wed,Thurs,Fri ) to let them know I wouldn't be in.
I did see a bus passing this afternoon though so hopefully will be able to get to work tomorrow. I'll still have to check the bus company's website in the morning though to make sure its a full service running and not a Sunday service ( 1 bus every 2 hours from 10.15am - 6.15pm). Then I'll have to phone work to say whether I'll be able to get in or not.

First day back today and athough mail was light the conditions on the delivery were garbage. I only fell once though, unluckily for me it was down some steps
(it wouldn't have been funny if i'd broken something though!)

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
In the yard today, round 10am about to deliver to two roads which would normally be two bags worth, was today split into six ( they'd not had any mail and packets for close to four days due to treacherous conditions underfoot ) - when my DOM offered to drop me off whilst on his way home to get his boiler fixed ( the water kind- not the Missus) . Me thinks, If I sauntered into the office one day and wanted an early dart to get me water pressure fixed ( the mains supply not a bladder problem) I'd be met with a look and a march down the conduct code for being so impertinent !

Re: Worst snow I have ever seen.
Had 3 days worth to take out this morning, 2 large trays, 9 pouches, 21 specials, 9 tracked and the bulk
only managed to clear 1 tray, 2 pouches, all the specials/tracked and the bulk. Tomorrow will be fun with 4 days worth, they told us they are evoking the 30 mins tomorrow, not that its going to make a difference, the side roads are horrendous and the pavements/driveways are lethal.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

And you're just jealous I get home before dark
I was told that last Tues when it snowed like crazy our managers sent posties out to do full walks including collapsing - needless to say most of it was sent back.
