Initial Primary Sorting or Inward Primary Sorting - the bit full timers do when they start in the morning - ie the uncoded loose mail, flats and packets at present.

Don't part timers do any of that? Maybe I shouldn't go in so early :)

Seriously, as a part timer, should I be doing any sorting other than my own walk?

It depends on local agreements so check with your CWU Rep - but in my office Part Timers do no sorting apart from their walk/duty unless they specifically get Docket (Overtime) to do it.

Not unless it's in your contract.
In my office the only difference between F/T and P/T is that the full timers do one hour IPS. Obviously RM have ensured that part time walks are the same length as full time walks although the full time staff have an extra hour to deliver it. As you are part time you must have one of the easiest walks/duties in your office, (in mine the duty re-pick was done on seniority, AG's [part timers] are usually last in and are at the bottom of the list. I don't have a problem with this as it is only fair, but who gets the worst walks). If only eh! Being part time means you are paid less hours and you have different duty times to the full timers. They are paid to do IPS, it's in their 318, I'm quite sure they and the union would be up in arms if RM were using unpaid staff to sort. They would soon complain about losing hours and jobs. Sorry guys but this is a problem I've got with F/T staff moaning at me about not doing IPS. Simple answer, I'm not paid to do it, now make me full time, pay me another 10 hours, then no problem.

My lot are lucky then. 07.00 to 08.00. They can't sort after that unless the DOM sucks up to the Rep, even then he hardly agrees unless they pay OT. We got a good, strong rep.

In my DO rurals sort for 40mins but the towns sort until finished. :wave

Cr@p day, every other customer that walked through the door wanted to complain about something or other, Mail Collect, Customs, Surcharges, Postie not knocking even though they were home apparently, missing packets, hope tomorrow is better :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I got accused of that when I was standing at the doorstep packet in hand filling out the form left.

He was not happy when I pointed out that if I had not knocked why would I have the packet in my bag, and why would I carry it round with me. He had no answer. Sometimes people like to blame others for their own laziness/mistakes. Of course this in no way can excuse those few posties that do exactly what I was accused of and do so on a regular basis and unfortunately its just these few that give us all a bad name.

Long Weekend...

Post by Sparx71 »

Just enjoyed the perks of a 5 day week..the Long Weekend...It takes so long to get here and then is over in a flash. Now its Monday afternoon and the depression at having to go back tommorrow for 5 days straight is setting in.But I wont let it ruin my last few hours of freedom...bring on my redundancy package...

You're lucky because I've never had a long weekend, unlike all the other reserves who tend to get left on a duty (in one case for 18 months).

As for today well it works out like this:40 mins IPS
90 mins prep/load up
40 mins break
6hr delivery

I really hate this duty :evil/mad [/i]

I agree!

Why would someone just fill out a notice left at the door (instead of knocking first)? Hate them things, its a godsend when they are in to get the parcel at home, and must be for them as well.

Ah, I see what he is suggesting...
