Won't be viable in an MC, sometimes you can end up being in half a dozen work areas over the course of a shift. All shifts goto the wire anyway, no matter what time of yearNewbie001 wrote:Document not very clear on this. If you read whole RM document. Does give impression they're talking about MC's only. Why would they want to give away all the free hours they get in DO's. And clocking in and out of every task does sound like something that could only be achieved in a MC setting.AceMark wrote:Taken from the Delivery section of the new CWU document about Royal Mails planned changes.

I guess this closes the Going Home Early thread.

It's not really going to work in a DO either, most offices are run by fire fighting not structure. You could end up in half a dozen different work areas in the space of an hour, never mind a shift.

You wouldnt be finishing early on them days, they want each postie to do 2 rounds to fill the hours up. So a vanshare would be doing 4 duties on the light days. Would lead to huge job lossesAceMark wrote:Says they are also planning on only delivering 1st class Mail 3 days a week to save on costs. In addition to this Royal Mail want to introduce another cost cutting policy. This is that on three days per week we would deliver all the mail and on the other three days per week we would only deliver 1st class. This would mean that they could cut costs on the three days when we deliver just 1st class items.
First class mail would continue to be delivered 6 days a week.

I could see many MCs loosing all their 2C if this happens and the 2C being processed in larger MCsStraight4ward wrote:SpacePhoenix wrote:No chance, they'd fail the USOAceMark wrote:Says they are also planning on only delivering 1st class Mail 3 days a week to save on costs.

Here's another example of why coming in early doesn't work.
Colleague comes in at 5:45 (start time 6:30) to start throwing in walks. I come in at 6:30 and doing the same, throwing in 3 walks. Colleague gets out the door at 9:20 this morning. I leave the office at 9:25. I left the office at 2:05 this afternoon. I pass though this particular colleagues last loop on the way home, so will usually see him just about to finish, and today I did. 2:15pm still plodding. So, what's the point in coming in early?

People go in early for a number of reasons. Old timers who started at 5am years ago still like going in at that time. Some people like going in to have a chat and a brew and some people like the feeling that they have a head start, if you compare your work to someone who has been early it would work out that over the course of the morning you have had to work quicker in a shoter amount of time.

I appreciate that there's many different reasons for someone wanting to come in early, but I don't see how you're doing yourself any favours by doing so. My example here is only one instance, but there are many Wednesday's and Thursday's were this is true. On a Monday, Tuesday they'll be back at the office just after 12, like most. All DOM sees is people coming back early - he's not interested about people starting early, and why should he be.

So , what is the definition?
If you are faster or better ,are you a good postie?
Or , if you are accurate , do the job properly , don't flick mail whilst walking ... etc , etc
Are you then a bad postie?

No it is not as black and white as that. You can have good fast postmen and good slow postmen and every type in beween. If you owned your own company would you employ all the peole you currently work with? Everybody know who is a good one and a naff one where they work.

Couldn't care less , ive been in the job 21 years I go in tell it as it is to managers , I have no debt , I walk out when I want to and laugh at the corporate people that think they own me , its a liberating feeling knowing that the powers that be have no control over you .

The business isn't daft, they don't want 100,000 posties doing the job properly, it would drag efficiency back down to 80s level, they want their cake and they want to eat it so some form of job and finish will always remain, even if it's unofficial.[/quote]
No job and finish at my office. Everyone is made to stay to their time.

1st Class only? If were talking letters you'd be lucky to have 2 small bundles for a whole walk (especially on Tuesdays).AceMark wrote:Says they are also planning on only delivering 1st class Mail 3 days a week to save on costs. Doesn't sound very cost effective to me.

It is if your expected to take out an extra duty on them days, no need to pay the person who would have delivered it normallyHaitch P wrote:1st Class only?
