Taurus88. In my opinion a brilliant astute post from "new eyes".
The last sentence however shocking & controversial to some it may seem, is again in my opinion very astute and sadly not lacking a ring of truth.

...but again it paints a very gloomy picture for the future of the union and the membership...and no answers.gb93 wrote:Taurus88. In my opinion a brilliant astute post from "new eyes".

There was a time where you either followed the union line...or you were completely shut out.
I wouldn't advocate a return to those days,it was laughably oppressive and led to some nasty B&H but if you are looking for a time line for when office solidarity started coming apart at the seams....
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

If nothing changes the future is gloomy, not just for the union & posties but the whole country as for the apathy & selfishness is not esculsive to cwu members.fishtank wrote:...but again it paints a very gloomy picture for the future of the union and the membership...and no answers.gb93 wrote:Taurus88. Sorry Fish no answers again, I may have suggestions but I am realistic(pessimisic) to realise I would be p*ssing into the wind and not make an apeth of difference to the modernised society.

Don't forget DirtyHarry, that it's HQ who did that, NOT the Reps you normally come into contact with. Now, I don't know what your Local and Area Reps are like. But mine are great, and I for one, think it's more than worth the Subs, to have access to their help.

I tell you something from a local reps point of view....difficult to say the least!! This even before the National Agreement(s).
Everytime they change DOMs you have to educate him/her in national agreements because they say the same thing over and over again. Resource meetings are like pulling teeth.
Members are our worse enemy at times. Pitting reps and managers against each other if they don't get their way,(basically they are scarce with the truth as they have done a "little deal" with the line manager and it's come apart,THEN they come to the rep!).
We have to have eyes in the back of our heads.
Apathy?
It's flippin rife!

Re: whats your view on the cwu
There are some very good local/area reps, no question about that, andy. Trouble is, they are being undermined by those above them, as has always been the case, but, this time I fear it's fatal.andy2007 wrote:Don't forget DirtyHarry, that it's HQ who did that, NOT the Reps you normally come into contact with. "2010 & Beyond", was one defeat snatched from the jaws of impending victory, too many. I, for one, cannot endure another one, nope, I could never endure the hardship of striking again, and have shag-all to show for it.
Besides, the worsening of working conditions for postal workers, and especially those on delivery, being part of a so-called union which presides over the sort of decline we are currently suffering, doesn't sit well with me.

Re: whats your view on the cwu
if the union is so intent on having local agreements maybe we should do away with ward and hayes then just have your local rep who is fantastic
