2 doing 3, 3 doing 4 is all just numbers without the base data on how many houses on each duty, type of area it covers, plus how long current duty spans are.
I’m in no doubt that there will be offices with duties well under 4 hours where the change will be easy. Granted, people might not like having their duty time increased by an hour or so, but that’s what the longer days in return for more Saturdays gets you. Plus less time indoor needed to sort less mail for that day gets you out onto street with more time to deliver.
Unfortunately for the real world many offices are way over capacity with monster sized duties and packets dumped on by Amazon as they don’t fancy the last mile.
They will look back at this in years to come and say, hmmm, maybe we should have had a revision first…..

What is happening with walking HCT duties? are they trying to put them into pods and axe them as HCT rounds?....

Cos you can't make an HCT duty 1 hour longer as the HCT does not have capacity.

So surely non-drivers will have to become the passenger in the van-share part of the pod - right?

HCT duties in our place can be done 30 minutes to 1.5 hours early as it is. Yet you have other driving duties that are too big. Where is the logic? The amount of inefficiency at Royal Mail is unbelievable. Instead of making logical changes to even things out, managers instead just pressurise those on the larger rounds, which leads to stress, RTCs, posties leave, Royal Mail end up with higher costs. It is utter madness.

I'd love to have the role of making our office as efficient as I can and keeping posties happy, on jobs they want to be on and making it work...it would be fairly simple.

but Royal Mail just want inefficient rounds, unhappy posties and toxic culture.

Probably local management just doing as ordered by their manager, they know if they don't they'll just get moved on. I think these days they're just a number to RM, like the rest of us.

You simply have overload bags.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

This is Royal Mail. There is more chance of these duties returning to the office and stand around for 90 minutes until scan out time.

We haven’t implemented DM26 yet but our lead COM has decided to take his own executive action and bring it in by bringing in double lasping and pairing already overloaded HCT duties together.

The HCTs that have been paired together don’t actually deliver any letters and the one we are doing actually brings tracked parcels back but apparently it’s doable according to the lead Com as there are loops marked on the frame.

CWU Update:

https://www.cwu.org/wp-content/uploads/ ... -Att-1.pdf

However, a minority of units are not working for a variety of reasons, ranging from high sick absence to
singleton vans and increased parcel volumes.

The most common theme for those not working is they did not follow all the pre deployment checks in full. The agreement also states that there must be a mandatory review, and no surplus employees will be removed unless the unit is achieving all its quality targets.

We are voting on our " new shift pattern" soon.
But only for Union Members..
Is that right?
A few in our office are not in the union and not happy they wont be getting a vote as RM employ them not the C.W.U?

We were told there is a DO in Wales with only 4 CWU members out of 30. :left:

It's a CWU and RM agreement. Therefore only CWU members should get a vote.

but Royal Mail just want inefficient rounds, unhappy posties and toxic culture.

You would think that management would prefer efficient duties and good morale because it makes their own jobs easier.

But what you said resembles our office. We have HCT and singletons regularly completing their own rounds everyday whereas the paired walks are really struggling, leaving loops of mail for days on end. The customers on those rounds are getting an absolutely sh*t service. It's not necessarily because the singletons are easier duties but if management are regularly allowing them to complete their own duties everyday - where are the savings from them?

If management can't make the singletons leave their 2c and pick up some loops or parcels from any other duties then it's evidence that a revision or re-pick is overdue. Saying that, we have been promised one for years and management have continually kicked the can down the road because many of the regulars on fixed rounds don't want it to happen and management are more bothered about the overall QoS in the office than several paired walks that are regularly failing. Only my opinion though. So what you end up with is half an office where the new delivery methods don't affect them and half the staff p*ssed off with the company.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The issues you speak of are the same in ours and up and down the country - they are just throwing DM26 at every office and hoping it sticks with some. HCT and Single/rural vans are completing every single day for a variety of reasons, yes they tend to be lighter/have less variables, they are always fully staffed/resourced and ultimately use the efficiency of 1 person, 1 job. Shared vans have become the dumping ground for all the problems in offices. Even with 2 people on them the inefficiencies come to the fore very quickly. Managers quickly realised about 6 years ago that you don't always need to have 2 people on a shared van duty every day, just roll over the letters, which makes things even worse.
On Friday the CWU posted an update on how DM26 is going and where it isn't working, there is an issue with singleton duties. What the issue is, they haven't said, but could it be that what people said on here right at the start - you aren't going to get someone on a comfortable single duty all of a sudden do 50/50 second class, 100% first class and tracked, then make the time up to go help out and do 50 tracked from another duty. But what do we know....

According to the CWU the wording regarding the issue with singleton duties is a bit vague. It could mean that there are offices with a lot of singleton vans or a lack of flexibility because the singletons can't easily absorb any of the extra work. That might be the case if they are on rural's and are driving miles to other delivery points. However, a singleton on an urban round might have the issue of delivering too many parcels and 1c letters.

Until the CWU answer the question of the issue regarding the singleton vans everyone is left to fill in the blanks with their own interpretation.

I think we all knew that getting the rurals or Singleton duties to help wouldn't happen. Either because they cannot as they still have to drive the whole route or they won't because they just drag the work out and come back on time it needs stronger management or just some management! Maybe some team work too but it's every post person for themselves at RM, strange really.

Nowhere near picking shift patterns yet but told by the CWU it's a legal thing that only union members get to vote.

For those unhappy about the lack of say and don't feel the need to join the union, splash the cash for required amount of time and get a say in what's going on and then leave

That is not how it is going to work, the singletons/rurals will get a set amount of extra work added to their rounds during the planning. This should be work taken off any unachievable shared/Pods to even the work load across the whole office. There will be no need for dragging it out, if a singleton/rural completes now then when they go to 50/50 they will have spare time that will allow them to absorb delivery points from failing walks. If you are on a failing shared duty now make sure during the planning you make your voice heard.
