Bit weird again today walk itself busy but not heavy so finished on Time. But IPS sorting up to limit and there was still 2 yorkies in our section to do. He told us to go back to frames - must have been worried about mass cut off's.

So many questions Majeed. I take it you haven't yet started in RM. You will find out most of the answers to your questions when you do. But to answer a couple of your questions, a York or Yorkie is a rigid wire container on wheels about 5' high in which bags of mail, pods (plastic boxes) of letters, or loose packets/parcels are transported.

The Callers Office duty is unpopular because you get a lot of stress and abuse (and occasionally physical assaults) from members of the public who come to collect their post - often without the necessary ID. In Delivery Offices they are uually open while the DO is (until 1300 or 1400 I believe). In larger Mail Centres they might be open until 1800 or 1900.

Hope this answers some of your questions - you are certainly researching things in detail!

I came to realise that this forum is actually like a "Royal Mail university", with you guys as lecturers (and the old crumblies as professors, LOL).

I've learnt a lot - I feel like I've done a BTEC.

Being a cynic i'd say they will be sending out tons of comms based around the date that the ballot papers come out. There will also be a 'reasons to vote YES' document in with the ballot paper!

I'd say they are leaving it late so it gives people campaigning for NO to answer the points they will make. Guess we will see

effin nightmare even my docket was fucke? up because the muppet didnt number the bundles didnt put them in order and loose bits everywhere,starter motor on van is playing up and nearly ran out of diesel,even had to fill a bottle thanks to a lack of quiet bushes,started early, finished too late,had to cut off from my docket

Bundles are sorted mail ready for delivery normally numbered so that all you have to do is follow the numbers and the delivery in theory should follow on.

cut off = Unable to finish in time do returned undelivered mail to office or informed manager.

2 major incidents in sw4 today,A massive fight on one of the council estates last night/early morning,2 people dead (stabbed) and a few in hospital serious wounds e.t.c.,

Not too bad today, alot of mailsort from yesterday, the full timers just throw in my M/S anywhere not even the same road sometimes(w*****s).
we have a sort of them and us situation in my office, it's hard enough battling managers let alone trying to battle the staff you work with, Because i do 30 mins less sorting and don't have to wait for missort's and can then get out by about 7am to 7:30am not 8:30 they get the right dog about it, they say i should throw in my own M/S for the next day and the managers say not, but if the boot was on the other foot i wounder if they would do the same?

Missorts - there are 2 types.

1. In this case its a box or container of mail that comes from a Mail Centre, Other Section or satellite offices that are not presorted just before you leave to do your duty.

2. Another type of missort is when your on your duty and find a letter for one address in with others from another address.

Absolutely C R A P day they stuck me in Callers office.

Four questions:

1. Why is the Callers' Office such a horrible job and
2. Was that duty instead of or after your post round and
3. If your answer to 2. was 'after', how soon after you'd done your post round were you called to work in the office and
4. What time did you finish in the office before you could go home?

1. Too much stress, no support and too much abuse from customers.
2. No I was taken off duty - you will be unlikely to do this until you have settled in - but try to avoid being trained for it.
3. Depending on your contract you cannot be made to work beyond your duty time or after your duty is completed.
4. Again depends on your duty and shortly whether flexibility has been introduced into your office.
