Higher up have got PDA actuals now, if they see walks finishing before their proper finish time regularly they're going to take hours out of the officeWoody Guthrie wrote:If a duty has been planned and accepted at the revision stage surely no decent rep would stand for a it being extended purely on the basis of someone cutting corners? Rather than blaming others some of these reps need to take a look at themselves.
It's never happened in my office. It never will. We make our management manage by facts, if they want to extend a duty it has to be backed up using the agreed tools and planning values. If someone skips their break management can't take that out of the planning values, if they start early they can't use that in the planning values. It's not rocket science.

So you keep saying but it doesn't work like that, As well as telling you the finish time PDA data also tells you how long a delivery route takes.Higher up have got PDA actuals now, if they see walks finishing before their proper finish time regularly they're going to take hours out of the office
If it takes 4.30 and it's planned at 4.30 it doesn't matter whether that particular postie is finishing early there is nothing you can do with the outdoor workload.
What you would then look at is why Bob is finishing early, Is he getting out too early? Then it becomes an indoor issue, if his indoor workload is fully populated and the only reason he's getting out early is because he's not taking his break then from an indoor workload point of view there's nothing you can do.
You can't build an indoor work plan on the basis of someone not taking their break because the IWT won't let you.
In a s**t office you could bully him into taking more and hope he still takes his break but only a s**t rep would let that happen.

Higher up aren't going to give a s**t why the walk is being finished regularly before the official time, they'll just see scope for hours that can be taken out of the office, shrinking the office budgetWoody Guthrie wrote:So you keep saying but it doesn't work like that, As well as telling you the finish time PDA data also tells you how long a delivery route takes.Higher up have got PDA actuals now, if they see walks finishing before their proper finish time regularly they're going to take hours out of the office

We've already been through this SP, you can only build a work plan on facts.
As long as the work plan adds up there isn't scope.
To take out hours you have to show where they're coming from.I've had this conversation with the higher ups and they're not stupid.
The PDA data is mostly being used to assess delivery spans and the impact of large parcels, finishing times are only relevant if it shows a surplus on indoor hours.

Your office must be very lucky. Resourcing is down to budget these days not workload. If your current DOM doesn't take hours out they'll just get replaced with one who will take the hours outWoody Guthrie wrote:We've already been through this SP, you can only build a work plan on facts.

rough deal ??? tommy the pts in our place our licking there lips . 25 hour contracts coming in for 2.50 every morning . doing a shout on the collections which I don't agree about isn't there a limit on overtime or is it a office agreement ??tommyrep wrote:Fair comment, until the have walked in their shoes !clashcityrocker wrote:I don't think they don't give a monkey's, they simply cannot empathise with a situation they haven't been in.Jahpostie wrote:DOs should have a part time union rep, representing part time interests. I suspect most union reps are full time and only give a monkeys about full timer interests and getting home early.
I do think all union reps should be reserves and not duty holders.
There will (shortly) come a time when most offices have a majority part time staff and then they will be able to vote in "their" candidate.
The Rep’s may not be aware of the PTs plight but many FTs certainly don’t.
Generally speaking part timers have always been regarded as the poor cousins in delivery.
They get a rough deal at times, with very little backing in a DO, and boy don’t the managers know that.
And yes, mainly part time posties in delivery are inevitable in the future, I think, with FT work mainly in MCs.

From what older posties I work with, 20 years ago the job was a hell of a lot easier and you didnt need to deliver even half as much as what we do now. As for posties "looking like tramps" these days, i think thats all down to trying to be comfortable whilst working in all kinds of weather... it isnt a fashion show.zombiepostman wrote:This will be my last post on this forum as i can't believe the crap that is written about old posties and how bad managers are
when i started twenty years ago you had to be smartly dressed ,on time and you were told if you didn't do a good job you know where the door is ,you had checks when you came back and if you had one letter in a bag you got sent out to deliver it (i see letters and packets brought back daily)half the posties look like tramps and as for the state of most vans its a joke
its a job you have a start time and a finish time if you don't like it find something else.
thank you and goodbye

We just make management stick to their own agreements.
We've had a few different bosses lately and they all get the same treatment.
There is no agreement to resource to budget so I don't know why your managers are getting away with it.
