One good reason to keep seniority is that the older posties generally don't rush around, they been there done it and have learnt the consequences of running. Easier rounds are therefore in a safe pair of hands.
Can you imagine some of the younger ones carving up the easier duties!!.

Re: Re-sign Seniority list . Revision
All well and good. But I joined 10 years ago since when only two new positions have been filled. So I'm still at the bottom of the list, just turned 60, and will again end up with a crappy walk. I keep being told that after the last revision, "they're all equal" but when I suggest in that case, they should be allocated randomly, I get lots of abuse! Would be nice if they took into account my chronological age as well as length of service - and (not in my case necessarily) take into account any medical or other issues that might hinder someone from performing certain duties, eg, too many stairs. One good reason to keep seniority is that the older posties generally don't rush around, they been there done it and have learnt the consequences of running. Easier rounds are therefore in a safe pair of hands.

dingo wrote:Your forgetting Royal Mail don't like the principle of resigns at all. Too many complaints from customers about their postmen women being knocked off their round and that customer complaints increase after full resigns as new duty holders get used to the new delivery. Some OPGd have been on the same round all be probably with streets and roads added for years.
Under the Employee Agenda they wanted to do away with resigns and individuals selecting jobs as they wanted the team leader to select what jobs his team members did. in the end when the Way Forward came in resigns were limited and unless every duty was changed there would not be a need for a full office resign. If there was only a small change than indivuals could opt of a resign. Prior to the way forward many offices had a full resign every year regardless of whether there had been a revision.
If the CWU wanted to change seniority now and it does not ,there is no chance that Royal Mail will agree to let's draw duties out a hat ! Royal Mail will want to reward those who have the least sick , have the highest first time delivery rate, the least customer complaints and is the most flexible in terms of absorption !
This is not a route which the CWU would agree. Equalising duties will never really happen because new delivery points come on stream all the time and business relocate as well. So even after a good Geo route revision there will be better walks than others for a variety of reasons ! Flats with lift , flats without lift , streets with basements , businesses etc
The reason why our office will probably never have a proper resign and revision is because ITS TOO MUCH WORK FOR THE MANAGERS !!
There are some posties on good rounds who don't want it, and judging by the extra lapsing that got put on their duties recently (hardly any); they are still on good rounds! Whilst other duties got royally sh*fted because the staff on them were not prepared to do overtime (sorry absorption). Now they have to bring in more staff to cover, but don't worry a few of our senior bosses got their bonuses in first !
Like the fact, its got ball all to do with customers complaining about postmen/women being knocked off their rounds. Especially, as the rounds that Royal Mail lapsed in our office were also the one's that had the most customer complaints !! Why didn't Royal Mail have a regular postman/woman on these rounds??
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
