your also mixing up who the customer is, the customer is the person who has paid to send the mail not the recipient and they expect us to deliver it securely

you should be doing your job properly and not cutting corners and leaving mail insecure

Recipients leaving you nowhere secure mail is not your problem, you endorse it and take it back to the depot... Or ask for a legally binding letter off each of your insecure deliver points, stating to the effect that if you lose your job, they will pay you your typical weekly wage including any overtime.
