I wonder if management have known this for a bit. I say this because my dom randomly came up to me and my partner( we are both pt temps) after we finished our walk for the day and told us our jobs or definitely safe. Then took us into the office to tell us when our weeks or booked off. This was about week and half ago.

ok going to tell you what I know and it isn't much at my office no tnt no loss of amazon etc: but 500 hours have suddenly been took out of our office all tempory contracts have been given two weeks notice and all tempory full time been knocked back down to part time. spoke to DOM on saturday after he had told people (actually a nice bloke believe it or not) and he was genuinely gutted. seriously don't know how we are going to cope as office relies on ot as it is. Dreading going in tomorrow seeing some good people facing the dole.

My DO, in the north, has just employed 10 new temps on 26 hour contracts. Theres been no mention of any lay offs what so ever. Though now all the O/T has pretty much dried up and myself and several other part timers are actively seeking new jobs due to this. Theres even been a new job created now. 18.5 hour contracts just prepping walks in morning. Eventually this will account for all the full timers leaving or retiring. The thing is, most of the part timers are happy to come in early and prep but RM don't care. As ive always said, this is a dead end job. Treat it as such and save Job Centre to your favourites. Nowt wrong with looking and applying for jobs while you are still employed. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I've been scouring job sites for two years plus as a sort of hobby/habit. Honestly, no better unskilled job, paying £10 per hour exists. The only way is down.

My Dom said something about the dsm saying that they want to get rid of all 25hr temps! But nothing deffo. We would be fooked as only a small office and we have 5/7 on temps!? Crazy if it happens.

No new full timers been taken on in MCs for a few years now, only "new" full timers are people who've transfered over from deliveries, all shifts run on overtime. Many more hours taken out and they may as well push DO start times later as there won't be the staff to get it clear it for the final dispatch times. Anyone is off sick or on holiday, their duty gets lapsed, no matter what the content of their duty actually is

I'd certainly grab it if it was available but it seems unlikely... our DOM claims he is being put under serious pressure to lose hours out of the office equivalent to 1 part timer (small office)... but insists there is no chance of VR's.

First they came for the Temps, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a Temp.
Then they came for the Elderly, and I did not speak out — Because I was not Elderly.
Then they came for the full timers, and I did not speak out — Because I was not a full timer.
Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.
I am no longer a number :-)

Just got a text from my ADR - all members of the Union who are temps (in any form) and have been told they are no longer needed, or their hours have dropped are to contact their reps, and ADRs as soon as possible. The Union has not agreed it and some areas may be up for a fight.

How many FTCs are likely to be union members?
And are those who are not union members going to be left unprotected, even though their dismissals will surely impact on the union members?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
