It seems that we have to deliver 22 Million copies of the Sun on 12th June to coincide with the World Cup.

Why the hell am I reading this in The Guardian and not being told about it and the various arrangements for delivery by my DIM?

isnt it wonderful that the union and royal mail can agree its ok to deliver approx 500 sun newspapers over two days
work to to your time and let the managers take them

Mate, it depends on what STREAM it comes in on, for sure it won't be classed as a D2D?...

I spoke to my dom about this matter today and told him that I would not be happy if I was forced to deliver the rag.

he told me that much like BNP leaflets etc I could refuse to deliver it and be classed as a conscientious objector and not have to deliver them.

still need clarification on the matter though, but I can't see it being any different in reality

I also told him that even though I might be the only one in our DO to refuse, I would not be the only one in the country to do so.

I would imagine that the CWU reps and maybe even forward thinking DOM's ( if there is in fact one ) would start to talk about this matter in the coming week as it's only three weeks away before this debacle happens.

I've written to my area rep about my objection. He has sent letter on to div reps. I dont want to touch this vile rag never mind deliver it.

It's probably going to depend partly on what stream is going to be used (anyone heard which?). If it comes through as anything but d2d then it'll probably classed as live mail and if they come through as 1C then they'll all have to go out the same day

Its a d2d contract but Royal Mail may not now get it due to the Sun demanding that it is all delivered on the Saturday rather then the original proposal of 2 or even 3 days to deliver.

I saw a notice come through this morning. A Door to Door Item to be delivered on 12 to 13th June only across the whole of the UK. Tabloid Newspaper sized the items to be delivered over a two day period. What's your opion fellow Postie's should this contract have been accepted. It represent a huge amount of money for Royal Mail and also mean this could become the normal occurance if its succesful. What your opinion. I personally think if you on delivers you should get paid more. How can you compare someone working in a mail centre or warehouse in comfortable conditions to some one who has to go outside in some extreme conditions doing deliveries which are physicaly draining.

Of course it is good. The company wants to survive and so is fighting for exclusive contracts - yes more workload for us. (And more staff when you work to your time if you do not want, what will obviously be required, more OT). Personally i'll cut off, split the loops and use the trolleys as instructed (more time will of course be required for this extra workload remember).

Synopsis? It really doesn't matter how much you have to deliver, or how heavy it is, you are contracted from Time A to Time B and when the two meet, you have fulfilled your contract. Just use the equipment, make sure the bags are safe and it should make no difference whatsoever to you.

You do get paid more. Its called the delivery supplement, should that be more, well thats open for debate.

I take it this is the 24 page world cup Sun newspaper people were talking about, it's going to cause chaos lol
