We dont take breaks in my office it sort of evoved like that as the mail levels grew.
In the old days when i was a cadet everyone would be back about half nineish for break with first del all done van would come along and we would sort up 2nd del mail then prep and do 2nd del all easily done within duty time.
As mail levels GREW it got to the stage wereby that when you got back off del there was so little time left it was pointless in having a break then doing 15 mins work. Might as well do a bit of work then go home early. That was how it all started in my office.

I work in a London SDO.
Most people are in early when gates open at 5am (supposed to be 5:40am start).
5:40-6am: IPS and mailsort sorting
6am onwards: walk preps
7:30am: canteen opens
8-8:30am: late missort van can arrive at anty time
8:30-9am: most people are out towards delivery
My current delivery means I'm usually bundled up by 8am and out on my delivery starting before 9am. I can finish anytime after 11:30am though one day i had no reg/recorded/packets and finished by 11am. :)
We have 23 walks and 6 drives.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

4am start (by choice. after 4.15 there are no free parking spaces left and my walks are huge!)
Throw in til 5.10
Inward sorting til clear, usually 6.30
Back to frame to throw in again
missorts in at 8.00
Out on delivery depends on volumes, could be 8.15 on a good day or 9.30 on a bad one! I do Bicycle rounds, 5, i am a floater)
We work 6 days a week for 5 weeks, then one week off. I cover 5 posties on their rest weeks.
management is 50/50. One manager hates me and dogs me constantly! the others are just fine, if not great!
Collections from firms and pillar boxes start at 3.30 and usually you are back on the bay by 6pm, unless it is race day at the racecousre!! Then the traffic is a nightmare and it can add 45 minutes to your collection! Timelines are tight when collecting from the firms and we scan every point so everything is monitored closely. Most pillar boxes on the round are set at the same time, so it can be a personal race to try to get around to them as fast as possible!
Then drop into bed and start over again when the alrm goes off at 3.15. Whew!

we subtract the meal relief time (40 minutes) from our finish times. In other words, if our duty finish time is 13.10, then we book overtime after 12.40. No- one actually takes a break, we work straight thru. Our rural deliveries are often still out there at 13.00! our town jobs are heavy, so some are not done til full duty time anyway! Our DO pays a lot in overtime! Thay should never have gotten rid of the night sorters!
Cheers, tinydancer x

interesting if i had a clue wot u meant. made a quick call to the office oracle. they tell me that the rcs awd figures in our office are incorrect. dom does not get it corrected. we are way overstaffed hence poor figures every day. up to week 7 we have lost over £33each in our 50/50 scheme . idiot manager fills this in each week. makes the blokes off sick feel worse than ever. they are both recovering from heart op's. harrasment me thinks.Big Daz wrote:What is the budget for your offices?
We have a target weekly budget 2374 core work hours/2801 gross hours. This is 125 hours less on the gross hours compared to last year.
as for the overstaffed issue we have at least 15 new recruits all on 20 / 35 hour contracts. they are trying to get rid of us older ones on 40 hours. new workforce is in place with the benifet of our training and knowledge. ah well i digresse. sorry
floating postie.
