Saturdays there's also the coincidentals (2C where there's a 1C item already going somewhere).reddevils wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 10:09On a Saturday you only do first class and tracked! It is so simple yet management across the country is so poor that even this simple directive can't be implemented or instructed properly.
All the second class/DSA sorted in the IPS, Buddy boxes etc is to be delivered on a Monday. You don't even need to prep your frame on a Saturday! In fact you shouldn't be! All you need to do is make sure you have all your first class so its wise to go through the IPS mail then simply leave the rest of the mail for Monday.
This also gives you the maximum time to get the 1st and tracked delivered due to not having to prep your duty.
If you're done early then you see if management need you to cover 1st or tracked in another area. If everything is covered then you can start prepping your D2Ds at the office and if time allows prep the mail that has come into the office. This however is at the bottom of the list in terms of priorities on a Saturday.

That's how it works in my DO and we're on course to get our, minimal, quarterly bonus.reddevils wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 10:09On a Saturday you only do first class and tracked! Basically when you get into work you scan your oversized, scan the packets, sort through all the IPS mail for any 1c, collect the specials, tie up and then start your delivery of just 1c and Tracked, anything else, 2c, non Tracked, D2D's just stays in the frame or in trays, start prepping, or even looking through, that lot and your wasting 30+ mins of your delivery time, when just doing the basics on a Saturday takes roughly 90 mins before you can leave the yard.
When I returned to the DO I was sent out with some local Tracked and by the end of the day all the Tracked in the DO were delivered.
D2D's seem an issue as we've not got any extra time to prep them.

There's not time to search for coincidentals. Some Saturdays there's barely time to do tracked and 1C.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 10:15Saturdays there's also the coincidentals (2C where there's a 1C item already going somewhere).reddevils wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 10:09On a Saturday you only do first class and tracked! Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
On Saturday still getting mech boxed mail through that is not all first class mail - DSA mail. Mixed in with it is the odd first class. So assuming that DSA mail has hit it's time limit is it due delivery that (Satur)day?
We also get a small second bundle from the second wave, mixed 1st and DSA. Same question.
Also are we supposed to dig through the flats for a coincidental (2nd class item) for DP's that have a parcel? Do the algorithms know this?
Get first class items in the flats boxes too, mixed in with the People's Friend magazines.
It's a right cluster. If it's not due for delivery for that day the boxes should be marked specifically but they never are and we all know the MC's have to get rid of it to the DO as they don't have storage room.

Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
As others have said, 1st class, tracked, Specials and collections only on a Saturday. I normally end up with four trays of non first class and I’m not searching for coincidentals through that lot. I have no trouble clearing on a Saturday on my double pod, I find it the easiest day of the week and I’m on my own which I enjoy. I usually throw in the trays for Mondays heavy side when I get back- I know some have said not to do this, but it gives me a head start on Monday knowing I’ll face triple sequenced mail.

Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
The coincidentals are just mech ones. Data from packet sorting machines and flat sorting machines, probably from the machines at the superhubs as well feeds into the DTS algorithm so 2C where there are for packets and 1C flats should be released. We don't have a flat sorting machine, we sort 1C flats and 2C flats on separate frames and box them up separately. The DTS only releases what is due for delivery that day.yellowbelly wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 11:32On Saturday still getting mech boxed mail through that is not all first class mail - DSA mail. Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
The only 2c I take is if I know the customer is likely to have a 1c or Tracked, as the same half dozen customers tend to have one or the other on a Saturday. Although there's a good chance they'll have more on the following Monday anyway!!

Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
The only workload that should come in wave 1 and 2 on a Saturday is that days work. The algorithm should be correct. If you believe it isn't the answer is to report it not to simply delay the workload. Once the workload is sent the algorithm is believed to be correct. Unless it's reported there is no way of changing it. Chucking workload under a fitting certainly isn't the answer.yellowbelly wrote: ↑27 Sep 2026, 11:32On Saturday still getting mech boxed mail through that is not all first class mail - DSA mail. Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
It's being overcomplicated by many on here.
If we have any spare time between wave 1 and wave2 I personally get ahead by throwing the 2nd class in too, as above (where I am going or all on the heavy side) (I don't like standing around doing nothing waiting for the last wagon)
There is no need to dig through trays looking for 1st class.
I personally have a system where I mark any address that is getting a parcel (put in docket or turn first letter round) many don't and rely on remembering but I am too old to trust my memory now especially with the increased volumes of parcels, it does save time when out because I don't have to constantly dig around for a possible parcel in the back of the van and makes it easier to throw in the 2nd class coincidental on the light side.
When I get back I throw in the deferred 2nd class ready for the next day (if I have time)
- throw in the mech mail from 1st wave
Throw in manual mail from1st class (pink) IPS fitting
scan and sort all small parcels/packets (including non tracked packets)
Scan and sort all oversized/large parcels
Wait for 2nd wave
repeat four steps from above
Collect all mail from 2nd class(blue) IPS manual fitting
Mon-Fri throw in the 2nd class --all 2nd on heavy side, only where has already got a letter or parcel/packet on the light side
Place any 2nd from light side not going out into a tray as you throw the mail in.
Saturday only throw in any 2nd class that has already a 1st class or parcel/packet across whole duty

Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
Stirling effort. There should be no need to match dp's for items as the algorithm should only release workload that is due delivery. The non-core workload should stay in the IPS. The only items that should be thrown off into the non-core or light fitting is the workload due.delivery that day.mr hil. wrote: ↑28 Sep 2026, 13:17It's being overcomplicated by many on here.

Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
You are missing the point entirely. Thanks for your morning routine. I think most people understand how to prep in the morning, it was specifically Saturday that people were confused as to what they should be doing in the morning. There is no need to dig through trays looking for 1st class.
First class is not reliably put in the 1st class frame at our depot, neither is mail accurately placed in the correct pigeon hole for the correct duty. This means you have no choice but to take all the mail from the IPS and filter through it yourself or as you say dig through it on a Saturday. If you didn't you would fail to have all your first class.

Any mail in the non-core IPS stays where it is until the next day. The sorting and segregation for the core work should be correct. As long as the core workload is prepped that's all you have to do. There is no time value for checking. Checking the sorting is not part of the prep plan.reddevils wrote: ↑28 Sep 2026, 13:46You are missing the point entirely. Thanks for your morning routine. Re: DM26 First Class/Second Class/DSA adherence in individual offices
Well it isn't correct. Yes, in a textbook this is how it should work but in reality it doesn't work like this. People still sort to old duties after revisions and new duties have been put in. Newbies don't have the knowledge of the depot so they missort a lot. Then there are people that are just lazy and will put it in any pigeon hole.Any mail in the non-core IPS stays where it is until the next day. The sorting and segregation for the core work should be correct. As long as the core workload is prepped that's all you have to do. There is no time value for checking. Checking the sorting is not part of the prep plan.
So its not the reality on the ground I'm afraid. Managers specifically tell you to check both and clear the IPS so if you do leave 1st in the IPS, its liable for conduct. Thats the reality.
You also have 2nd class due to be delivered on the heavy duty that is in the light duties pigeon hole.
And buddy boxes for both duties containing 1st class.
So your comments that read like an instruction manual just don't touch the reality of the coalface.
