This is the point "whether they're allowed to roll over any left-overs to the next day" ... Once that Mail hits our Delivery Office we are told, "You've got to get it all delivered today"(with some obvious exceptions like Election Pamphlets, Water/Electric Bills etc). There's no "Rolling it over to the next day" for us .... even when some Dickheads made a Cock Up, and forgotten to load it on a Truck, or "Lost" it somewhere for a few days. :speak to the hand We've got to pick up the slack, as we're the ones doing that Final Mile. :no no

The only option is to use the "Over Running Procedure" and face a load of Grief from managers worried about upsetting their Boss. Doesn't bother me but a lot of Posties can't be bothered with the hassle and just do it. We had it happen with Election Materiel arriving several days late .... despite the fact it was someone else's mistake we had to sort it. It shouldn't be happening. :cuppa

Today was probably the busiest day so far. It's safe to say that we will be busier this year than last year in terms of packets & parcels. It's expensive to post loads of Xmas cards nowadays thanks to the unfair competition regime forcing postage prices up but cards are still being sent by the handful. By the time we reach Xmas Eve we will all be very tired & stressed out posties.

Cut offs galore today with nobody to cover them, dread to think what the floor will look like tomorrow. It’s almost like the good will has all been used up.

We can put to one side the question of who makes and enforces decisions. Nevertheless if the competition are allowed to effectively pay their 'employees' below the minimum wage on poor working conditions and can take fifty percent of the revenue from a percentage of our mailstream in return for less than fifty percent of the labour cost & time then this is clearly unfair, uncompetitive, and maybe even immoral.
We can argue til the cows come home as to who is responsible for this but you have to agree this should not be happening?

And who is the only company who delivers that mail? This is a thread about how quiet or how busy it is so the above has no bearing on the volumes. Your just trying to shoehorn your political views into the thread be they wrong or right.

This coming Wednesday night going into Thursday morning, every MC will have no choice but to make sure any left-over mech goes manual to DOs because of the General Election. iLSMs and IMPs are (or should be) programmed to extract any postal vote returns to dedicated stackers but there will be some that get sorted to manual and some that get sorted to whatever batches cover an election returning officer (probably whichever batches cover a local, district or county council)

Although it's been carnage, I think last year was worse up to this point. Last year one duty filling 3 yorks was common, haven't completely filled a second thus far! With less staff/no casuals/less willingness to do OT, our failure rates are mental, every day there is usually a couple duties not covered.

Sounds like a lot of you must be going over your times daily if you are taking everything out and have no van drivers, and have to prep and deliver all mail.

We generally try to finish as early as possible on Xmas Eve but 1200 finish is probably pushing it. I would say probably closer to 1400. But could be later than that.
