"6 months a year less than you for the same money?"

Behave mate.

Also, Why concern yourself with the goings on of others. Them working to their time wont mean you finish earlier. Not that I condone posties doing it but it's certainly not out of jealousy.

Sorry my typo. That was based on many finishing up to 2 hrs early per day = 10 hrs per week.
40 hrs per month = 480 hrs per year = just over 12 weeks per year.

I don't begrudge anyone finishing early. As stated it isn't their fault. I would love to be able to do the same.
But them working to their time would seem fairer.
I begrudge the fact that they earn the same as me for 12 weeks less work per year - and that's down to poor management.

But them working to their time would seem fairer.....

They do more work in less hours, you do less work in more hours.

:cuppa of course they do.

Fair is getting the same pay for the same hours not the same pay for less hours.
It's not much different to ghosting really - do you think that's acceptable as well ?

Personally I think delivery staff should be paid more than indoor staff.
Admin roles in the majority of businesses attract less pay than operational roles.

Delivery staff get bitten by dogs, suffer long-term musculoskeletal injury and are forced out in the kind of weather you wouldn't put a dog out in. I think it's an insult to the very difficult and physically demanding delivery role to have pay parity with a role done with a coffee in one hand.

Bravo Sir,
Hook, line, tackle and copy of the Angling Times.

Let's just hope when you reach my age and having had your ankles and feet shot to pieces and suffered 2 minor strokes that you are still even capable of going out on delivery.
OHS took me off delivery btw it wasn't through choice.
Let's hope you get one eh?

You were lucky.
Most of the OHS recommendations I've had to deal with have been for IHR. There are very few prized indoor roles left for broken posties.

Let's be absolutely clear what you're asking for when you moan about delivery staff not working their hours. There is little indoor work left to sustain full-time delivery roles, that's why your guys are finishing early and the only way to address that is to give them even more outdoor work. Have you any idea what a 5-6hr delivery day in and day out will do to delivery staff?

Who cares as long as you think it's "fairer"....

Don't you think your managers were fair when they gave you a cushy indoor role?? For all the posties who finish early, there are plenty of older more senior guys who struggle everyday, and most of them really wouldn't think twice to be able to do your job. The only problem is the indoor roles apart from management are often part-time only now like Woody says, so if you're still full-time no wonder you see people leaving early.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

As said before nobody wants any of the indoor duties in my office.

I get your point about a fall in the amount of indoor work and that may be applicable to many offices, but not mine.

We have as many as 4 staff starting an hour early every day of the week on O/T to throw off packets, prep P/T walks, scan RFD Tracked items etc etc.
Surely that O/T should not exist if we have so many staff finishing early. Most staff are out the door by 9.30 weekdays and 8.30 on Saturdays.
We do have a few deliveries that staff are struggling to complete in their duty times. Perhaps a small revision would address that.
We also have piles of mail left on the IPS most days where staff have gone out on delivery and nobody has bothered to sort it up or ensure staff take their missorts out with them.
We have little to no housekeeping. Trays and yorks left all over the floor or scattered around the car park.
Add to it walks that don't touch their D2D's or bother to do their kill offs, so they are piled high under the frames.

Today we lapsed 1 duty and paid out O/T to cover 5 more. In an office with a total of 43 delivery duties.
I can assure you that out of those 37 duties at least 50% would have made between 1 and 2 hrs today. Lets say a conservative 18 hrs made in total. That's 2 F/T duties.
Yet our DSM is saying RM will not allow us to recruit against growth of some 6000 extra delivery points during the past 4 years, plus at least another 4000 coming over the next 18 months.

Our F/T Callers office duty runs from late Wednesday through to Sunday close. The regular holder is on long term sick and already the person doing the cover of this duty has been asked to go out on delivery today while a manager covers the callers. It's also very common for the regular duty to go out after closing to do deliveries late afternoon when duties cannot be covered by O/T. The knock on is the amount of packets left to be booked in by me and a colleague the next morning.

I know of at least 1 other office in my sector where staff are made to sit in the office until their finish time if there is nothing left to do and at times even have their WTL before they can go home at the end of day.

Fair enough using that time for work duties, WTL etc but to just make them sit there and do nothing. Spiteful.

You sound pretty bitter. It sounds like these guys are probs running around, starting early, working through breaks, Not following SSOW etc to get finished up early. Not wise on there behalf as it will be them who will get more pilled on to them in the long run. They are doing the work allocated to them, Just quicker than other people. But them stretching it out to their time wont effect you in the slightest.

Bravo, well said, it’s just bitterness, cushy indoor duty and he’s moaning about other people!!
