removal of area reps is not a bad thing, they do very little, never support the reps & are in the pockets of the area management for their own benefit, this is widely agreed by most reps & members.
Im afraid the cwu should have been stronger along time ago & had the members out on strike, they just were happy to glide along creaming the subs off the poor members who were being bullied & worked to into early graves!
The cwu was too busy supporting that idiot ‎Jeremy Corbyn running around telling us how important it is for us too take refugees from syria!!
The poor members have nowhere to turn now, the union has no strength & the royal mail knows this so its going for the kill, all i can say is today is as good as its going to get, because everyday its going to get that bit worse until there is a complete 2 tier workforce & a weak membership & jobs will be gone.
Wow and you received IHR recently didn't you and you got that because the union is sh*&e I suppose but now your out the union is crap yeah good one

No there were a number of slides and one was for new starts but all the other proposals are for all staff including reducing full sick pay from 6 months to just 8 weeks for anyone with more than 4 years and less for staff from over 12 months but less than 4 years. Remember for the first 12 months you only SSP.

Maybe the union should resort to sending out postcards for us to return to HQ proclaiming how dissatisfied we are, like they did recently with the pensions fiasco?

Pathetic.

I don't agree with the sick proposals but it's been coming. I know plenty of guys who play the system regarding extra 'holidays', but never get to stage warnings.

I just feel sorry for those who genuinely get ill.

Its bad enough that people are put on "warnings" for being ill - that they should be asked to go without money whilst they are ill is ridiculous. Is it legal ? Its definitely not moral.

We all know there are scammers - but you can't base a workforces terms and condition around this sad minority. Rather, management should be routing them out - they are a drain on us all. And yes, IMO, the management should be aided in this process by the union. Maybe that way honest people might receive what they deserve - instead of constantly being asked to pay the price for the tardy.

I agree it's a minority. But as you said we all know these people who do this. I know 2 who openly admit to taking 2 weeks off a year because it keeps them under the disciplinary boundaries. And I suspect another 3/4 do it on the quiet because they seem to have a couple of full weeks off a year.

You won't go without pay though. You will get ssp. It's not much but many jobs only pay this. We've got a really good number here regarding sick pay and I was always worried that those taking advantage would ruin it for the rest of us and I think it might actually be happening now.

The sickness pay stuff is a waste of time.
What they'll save in people dragging themselves to work to not lose pay will be completely outweighed by those off for a couple of days and lost pay who will then self-certificate for a week to level the score instead of returning after 2 or 3 days like they would now. Overall effect = days lost to sickness will go up. Net cost to RM in paying O/T to cover it will go up.

SSP is circa £88 per week - that is maybe 1/5 of normal full pay. This is not enough for people who are ill and who have commitments. My household could only just buy food for that - let alone pay bills.
The whole scammers abusing sick issue is a red herring TBH - RM aren't wanting to introduce this due to scammers - they are wanting to divert the money saved into dividends. Scammers don't help, I'll grant you - but they aren't the prime movers in this RM "initiative".

Today they pay the first 4 days at SSP - 2 years down the line its SSP for the duration of your sick leave.

This needs nipping in the bud.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Everyone moaning about the union let's not forget
WE ARE THE UNION!

At the end of the day Royal Mail can suggest anything they like. But providing we fight as a team. Strike action will bring a crashing halt to 90% of this bollocks!

You think a public company can handle the backlash from the stock markets and national news headlining we are out on strike over conditions. profits and the stock price will tank and the CEO will be shown the door quicker than she can say "Ask Moya".

I hope everyone of our member like myself is willing to sacrifice short term difficulties to save our conditions for the long term.

We will not lose as long as we vote and if they play tough we strike.

So we should throw more and more money at automation to deliver fewer and fewer letters and flats?

Stupid question. Why are we bothering trying to automate at all? If there are fewer letters but each OPG is delivering more via longer walks, why is it costing us more per item?
