Pics of new Anvil Traction footwear

People have stopped wearing them at my office due to aching on the balls of feet.

Threw my Anvils the other day. They kill my feet and weigh twice as much as the YDS and Cats.

Have been using Anvil for 2 days and my feet are killing me, never had this problem with the Cats. Find them quite heavy to walk in. Maybe the YDS are lighter?

Having now worn all three , I preferred the cats ,but now they have discontinued I think the yds will be ok, I have been wearing them for over a week, and they seem a bit heavier, but will they last? As for those anvils they are not suitable for walking men .

Tried my new anvil tractions for the first time today.
Felt like I was wearing very heavy hiking boots all day Perhaps that is why they are called "Anvil"?

I wear the YDS shoes and don't have a bad word to say about them. Super comfortable, excellent grip, goretex lining. Definite winner.

I'm afraid you are if you think manufacturers are going to to design and produce bespoke footwear just for Royal Mail. At best we get an adaptation of standard occupational footwear. Finding a shoe that is light, comfortable, slip resistant, waterproof and will withstand walking 10 to 12 miles a day for more than 6 months is about as likely as finding the holy grail.

And any other well established walking/hiking boot/shoe company out there.

The fact is RM,

a) don't want to spend the money.

b) Focus purely on safety and give "health" a wide-berth.

I'm quite sure if an established company like The North Face were contacted by RM with design specifications they'd be all over it because the number of shoes we'd be ordering and being associated with RM would be a major win for them.

The money RM has pi$$ed away with sick, physio/rehab and MHR due to poor quality footwear not fit for purpose must be mind blowing since P&L came into effect.

As you say we walk 10 - 12 miles per day so supplying "the foot soldiers" with the best of the best should be a priority but it isn't.

But you are of course right that Royal Mail simply cannot afford to be paying around £100 for a pair of shoes.

North Face is a multinational retail brand focussing on exclusive "wilderness chic" so it's by no means certain that they would feel it appropriate for the brand to supply shoes to Royal Mail. They certainly don't appear to be supplying footwear for any other industrial companies.

North Face was used as a simple example of companies out there that cater specifically for off road, uneven terrain with lightweight waterproof designs with decades of experience all of which RM continually ignore. Instead they provide heavy cumbersome footwear that generally has a lifespan of 12 weeks and leaves peoples feet, knees in ruin. Companies that make footwear for harsh conditions could easily adapt its range to suit an OPG's needs. Lightweight, arch support, shock absorbing sole, waterproof etc. As someone said wearing the usual fare from RM is like wearing cement blocks on your feet which will translate further up to issues in hips and back because off excess weight at the end of the bodies main leaver(s)..Legs/feet.

RM wouldn't be paying retail price.

No they would prefer to pay for people to be on the sick, ATOS, rehab and light duties and then MHR.

Penny of prevention goes a long way. Or maybe send senior management out in the current range for 12 miles and see how their feet feel after a week or three.

Why don't you put your ideas to the people that manage the uniform then? The names are in Courier letter page every month.

You seem very certain of the facts so perhaps you could tell them what is the weight differential between the North Face trainer and the current RM trainers? How much would we have to pay for them. RRP is about £120 so is it £100, £80?

To be brutally honest royal fail gives not an ounce of sh*t about those who have to wear them.... you know those that shuffle around an office to use the coffee machine or canteen

Couldn't wear the CAT shoes as have wide feet and they seemed be designed for geishas

The Magnum's were the only ones that fitted me. does anyone know if they are still available?

Fell over wearing the anvil tractions the other day on someone's driveway which was on a slight slope but dry. Now I have fallen over plenty in the cats/magnums but always on wood cladding in the wet. I honestly believe cats would not have slipped on that surface. Also when wet the anvils feel really heavy and you can buy them for £40 online.

Well, here are my ~ 5 week old Anvil Tractions starting to show a nice bit of wear on the outer edge of the soles. I'm only doing about 5 and a half miles on my round, pushing an HCT. Can't see them lasting beyond 6 months!
