If that was true TNT wouldn't be paying buttons would they?
It's a job with a low skill requirement and even lower educational requirement.
Even Michael Gove could probably manage it......

It's not even dangerous any more now that the WCM safety pillar has removed all unsafe acts by drawing pictures of them and stapling them to the D.O. wall.
I'm a step ahead there ft, ready for my role as WCM champion, take away the sharp pointy biros and only issue crayons :wave
After drawing a few pictures with your crayons you can start licking the windows, save on the window cleaner then :wave
Sign your new contract or leave, all part time-all minimum wage-halve the workforce and stuff the U.S.O.
Go and speak to the TNT boys trialing West London if it's still on, they'll tell you.
How do you feel about working for Royal Dutch Express? :vcfo
Why do I care who pays my wages.
Your right, it won't matter who it is paying your 20 hours part time pittance: with vastly altered terms and conditions, and very few rights. Maybe even the chance to re apply for your job on a self employed basis, you'd enjoy that. It's common in this industry.
If things seem bad now.......you aint seen nothing yet and it's not light years away either: the planning is well advanced and rolling as we speak! :pray

If the NEC of the CWU were clever, they'd have worked out by now that their members, ie: you and me, would all be better off 'breaking away from Royal Mail' and going it alone, picking up grants along the way, while at the same time freeing us from the USO obligation and UNDERCUTTING ALL OF rm'S COMPETITORS while at the same time directing the profits to those who actually make them and do all the bloody work. 'US LOT!'
IN effect, we sack the senior management and the government and play them at their own game by their own rules and beat them at it.
It might sound far fetched, but I'd bet Sir Alan Sugar would be impressed by that kind of business plan idea.
The truth is, if we don't have the power ourselves to run RM as 'our's free from all restraints, then it's doomed to fail because all the competitors can, will and are doing this to us already through the likes of DSA and under hand cost cutting tactics by feeding our once loyal business customers a load of crap because they know that they're only interested in ONE THING!
SAVING MONEY!!! WHO DELIVERS IT THE FINAL MILE,....THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS COZ WE HAVE TO DO IT FOR PEANUTS. IF WE ALL LEFT RM TO GO IT ALONE, THAT 'TAKING IT FOR GRANTED' ASPECT WOULD GO AND THE DSA BRIGADE WOULD PANIC. Until they realise that the same lads and girls still do what they always done, only now, it's just a job to them anymore, they ALL own it, like the staff of John Lewis's who get a nice big dividend every so often, a thank you for all their hard work.
HOW MANY OF US ARE STILL WAITING FOR 'COLLEAGUE SHARES'? NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!
:Applause :Boo hoo! :funneh :ncfo :vcfo

You're talking about self determination in that post - but that would come at enormous cost. You only have to look at Royal Mails balance sheet to see that as a business, in its present form, it's barely viable.

If your ambitions are to work for yourself, Sharkey go to Hermes self employed get your own patch: tons of work that used to be Royal Mail's. They pay £1.20 a parcel for delivery and same for collection plus bonuses, thats rural's. A bit less in town, can still earn a nice little wage after deducting vehicle costs etc. The sign of things to come/already coming :wave :wave fast

What you say is probably correct dv, but in sharkeyes world we would not be employing a manager for every ten pitworkers, and the managers that were necessary would have to do some work, and also the senior managers would no longer be on huge rewards to cut costs, which any numpty can do by just slashing the workforce. So the balance sheet could be rectified quite rapidly.

The start up costs would be prohibitive so it's a non starter for me.

I agree, I cannot see any financial institution being prepared to lend the sort of bunce that would be needed.
