Strike's on for Monday 17 December then, I think Royal Mail are going for the long haul on this one.

I think Bristol have actually played a blinder for two reasons:Red Robbo wrote:Strike's on for Monday 17 December then, I think Royal Mail are going for the long haul on this one.
At this time of year it will certainly engender a lot of local media and some national media interest.
In normal circumstances an office of 100 is not such a huge obstacle in terms of deliveries to surmount but at christmas with the additional sorting and increase in mail you are looking at a considerable logistical problem.
So whoever is in charge of the proceedings

Yep same in My office. Our DOM stood there like a Cheshire Cat and watched our faces when We saw two days pay deducted in one week.Resolve crumbled rapidly.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:I would have to disagree on minimum loss of wages - back in 2007 they attempted a similar thing and had a strike planned over the pay reporting date and RM played dirty and docked our pay in the same weekmalcolm3011 wrote:Lounge Lizard wrote:"Postal workers at the depot in Mead Street will take strike action from 00:01 on Monday 10 December 2012 until 23:59 on the same day. There will therefore be no deliveries on Monday 10 December 2012." - but why a Monday the second quietest day of the week and everything then cleared Tuesday the quietest day ?
They should have put strike days in for the Saturday and following Monday, minimum loss of wages to staff and the most disruption to deliveries![]()

Re: Bristol strike date announced
After Monday I think they will need to increase the pressure on RM and have at least two days on strike, one day a week will go on for months and RM won't give a toss.

Somebody's sniffing around the Bristol SEDO delivery issues...

Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,
please can you tell me the number of times and number of delivery
points for each of those times that the universal service failed(ie
no delivery at all that day) for the BS4 and BS14 postal areas.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs J Ryman
The BS4 and BS14 postcode areas are both covered by Bristol South East Delivery
Office. This office covers 56 delivery routes within the BS4 and BS14 postcode areas, six
days a week. Our records for Bristol South East Delivery Office show that from 1st May
2012 to 13th November 2012 there were 9,408 delivery opportunities (56 delivery routes;
6 days a week over the 28 week period). A total of 4 delivery walks were not made on the
due delivery day and there were 285 instances where walks were partially covered. It is
important to note that where a walk is only partially covered, it maybe just a small handful
of addresses that received no mail that day. We then prioritise delivery to those addresses
the following day to ensure any service disruption does not impact individual addresses
more than others.

CWU and Royal Mail meet at Acas over Bristol depot dispute
The Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Royal Mail are due to meet at conciliation service Acas later in a bid to resolve a dispute at a south Bristol delivery office.
Workers at the Bedminster depot on Mead Way have held a series of strikes because, they say, they are being asked to do more work with fewer people.
Talks between the CWU and Royal Mail have so far proven unsuccessful.
The CWU said if the dispute was not resolved there would be more strikes.
Bristol CWU area official David Wilshire said he was "optimistic" there would be an agreement at Acas, but said "in the absence of Royal Mail taking a responsible position" there would be further industrial action in the "not-too-distant future".
About 100 people work at the depot which serves properties in the BS4 (Knowle) and BS14 (Hengrove) postcode areas.
In a previous statement, Royal Mail said: "It is obviously better for everyone involved if talks can continue without the threat of industrial action."

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
