Remember the whole revison process be that goe route , delivery methods and walk sequencing all must be compatible. So without delivery methods you can not have a longer delivery span unless you have a clear and agreed plan on how you are going to deal with weight on delivery.

dingo, even Royal Mail agree in the withdrawn documents that the MAX delivery span with weight on the shoulder is 3.5hrs so what agreed plan would you have in mind to deal with weight on delivery without a delivery methods revision.
Delivery Method.
Foot with Pouch on shoulder.....3.5 Max Delivery Span (Hrs)*..... Reduce by 0.5 for multiple hills/stairs & consider additional breaks. Adhere to reduced weights as specified in the risk assessment manual
I can tell you this...our office will not accept longer delivery spans without the new delivery methods and i would be surprised and disappointed if any office did so it may be a bumpy ride......again.

You're wasting your time FT, that guy has about as much idea as to how a delivery office works as the man in the moon. His day consists of talking a good job.

Doh! when did we employ homer simpson to come up with new ideas for the way we work. Vans with insurance and fuel plus cost of vans means money the silly sods should employ a few more posties and drivers and give the public the service they pay for. I for one would prefer af ew thousand people working again with Royal Mail and less profit so a few can get millions in bonus as well as a large salary

Dvbuk unlike you I know what I am talking about and I attempt to resolve the issues , rather than moan ,whine and blame everyone else for your offices problems.

The facts are this , anyone who has agreed to a geo route revison since 2007 and that is hundreds of offices are now doing more than 3.5 hours on their deliveries as geo route only measures first point to last point of delivery , it does not include replinishment time ie dead walk , waiting for bag drops etc. Therefore any of those offices who have agreed or had peagsus revisons imposed will on average have a 4 hour walk. The 2010 and beyond agreement however now defines the delivery span in the future as the time between the first and last letter inclusive of all related taskssuch as replenishment , welfare etc.

Plus a number of offices agreed to longer spans which allowed for part timers to be made up based on 3 walks collasping into two.

In addition there are a number of offices not just in London who moved to longer spans for improved attendances or to maximise full time jobs.

The agreement states : IN UNITS WHERE AGREEMENT FOR CHANGE IS REQUIRED IN ADVANCE OF LOCAL DEPLOYMENT OF THE TRANSFORMATION PROJECT/DELIVERY METHODS, CONSIDERATION CAN BE GIVEN TO VARYING THE SPAN LENGTH PROVIDED THAT GENUINE AND DEMONSTRABLE SOLUTIONS TO WEIGHT AND FATIGUE ARE INTRODUCED.

The reason why it is an option to move past 3.5 hours without delivery methods is that it will be differcult to have improved attendances in advance of walk sequencing if you do not have a long span. Remember on a 9 day fortnight option you will have 9 hours of duty to fill up. Plus of course with more mech being recieved then it will also have an effect on the number of full time jobs.

Of course the agreement allows your office to remain on 3.5 hours , but I would hazard a guess when you optimise your geo route that you will have options on 3.5 and 4 hours and your office will have to decide which option is best for the staff.

Lastly dvbuk I am getting tired of the constant digs and snide comments aimed at anyone who has a different view and due to them this site is losing some of the posters who have ensured that this site has constant information.

But maybe thats what you want.

Dingo you belong to the chattering classes. Post or don't post, who cares? The information will be disseminated either way. You harp on about things you obviously have no experience of, whereas I and those of a like mind actually WORK in a delivery office, not talk about working in one. Some may remember your post of the deal of the century, well we're still waiting for it.

If you're tired of contrary posts, take a nap.

Sounds to me like Dingo is ruling out the menu of options for saturdays off.

Without a longer delivery span we cant move to a four day week or a 1 in 2 saturday off because it may not be 'compatible' with the WSM.

Please tell me Im wrong.

Well dingo it also states that....Delivery methods and equipment are key enablers to providing a span length which is realistic and achievable.

Now could you answer this for me What do you consider to be GENUINE AND DEMONSTRABLE SOLUTIONS TO WEIGHT AND FATIGUE considering there would be NO new delivery methods.
I seem to remember asking this about the increase in weight that extra D2D would obviously bring and am still awaiting an answer.
Perhaps you could answer both questions at once.
