Just had a thought if a duty is vacant and been covered on overtime or lapsing what happens to delivery supplement for that duty.

Last weeks conference.Wiggins79 wrote:Is this recent Fishtank? Has it already happened- and is it going to implemented into the delivery supplement issue? Or is it something that has only just occurred to the Union now that the horse has bolted, so to speak? Please note, I'm not getting narky with anyone on here as you are simply trying to answer my questions!
To be honest it was the weakest of the motions directed at the part-time pro-rata issue but it was the only one likely to be carried.
No it wont be applied to the delivery supplement as it stands although it hasn't just occured to them, there have been similar motions before but i don't think the will was there in the past.
It will only be used going forward so unless this deal goes t*ts up before then i would imagine it will be 2012/13 before it is used in anger.
BTW i am no fan of the delivery supplement pro-rata or otherwise.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Cheers for the info- I guess the only solution is to now refuse any OT, which will pretty much screw the running of our sub-office on a regular basis. Congrats RM.

Well if you consider we are due to shed at least 24,000 jobs in the next 3 years that is a lot of supplements, delivery or otherwise that will disappear from the pay pot.

Re: D2D on 7th June - what preparations in your office?
No NOT on hours worked but on contractual hours - this guy could be working a 60 hour week BUT he'll only be paid on 28 hrs pro rata on the 20.60 - he will be expected to deliver households on 6 days @ 16.66 per day but will be paid pro rata on 28 hours whereas a 40 hour duty holder will only be delivering 5 days at 16.66 for £20.60 - guess that's the winners and losers syndrome so popular these days, and the way a union looks after its part time members.POSTMAN wrote:Save your money,it's not a 'D2D supplement',it's a 'delivery supplement' based on hrs worked.Wiggins79 wrote:So basically, what you are saying is I will be getting paid less to do the same amount of someone else who is getting paid more? Off to an employment lawyer methinks.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There are now official documents out, the time needed to prep D2D will be put through IWT.
I can see next week being a busy one for local reps.

Re: D2D on 7th June - what preparations in your office?
Yeah I know Phantom that the supplement will be paid on A/L and sick leave the point I was trying to make was maybe a little mischevious and trivial was that IF a VACANT duty was covered on lapsing or overtime I presume that there would be no delivery supplement paid out on that duty therefore giving that office a £20.60 pro rata saving.
Who gets the benefit of that saving ?

Yes, I knew all about it, voted no, then left the union. Doubt they even noticed though as us part-timers don't really seem to matter to the Union.

Which people are you referring to Ricky?
Management who you would expect not to be interested in what a fully prepped, double slot frame looks like or our lot.....who are in and out of delivery offices all day long allegedly but somehow don't have the slightest idea what actually happens in one.
I am not prepping 5 D2Ds into a fully prepped frame,it would do my feckin nut in.

I'm not sure if I've misread this but it read to me like you shouldn't put the D2D through with the rest of the mail - I might be wrong - because there was a helluva lot of paperwork for managers and wtlls but someone will I'm sure correct me.fishtank wrote:Ricky Bruch wrote:Just seen a few doc`s on the new implementation & this jumped out;

Re: D2D on 7th June - what preparations in your office?
In the current scheme the rest-day cover is supposed to pick up 1/6 of the D2D. He has nether done this on my delivery but it has not been a problem as I accept the full payment for the D2D. I do not think there is going to be a problem with my rest-day cover as we have agreed a sector which I believe, as a reasonable person, he will complete. The problem will come when others do my duty as a one-off or when I go on leave. In the past I have come back from leave to find three weeks of D2D under my bay. I should not be responsible for these and I have complained to my manager to no avail. However, I have completed them and have been paid for the accumulation (all three weeks worth). In the current circumstance if I return from leave and the D2D has not been cleared do I just leave them, telling the manager that those who did my duty whilst I was away are responsible? Will the manager make me deliver them? After all, it will not cost his budget, recognising that there is no limit on the number of D2D per a door that you should be going out with on the 1/6 of the delivery you are required to cover each day.
In a prefect world those on the day should do what is required of them as they have taken the pay subsidy but as in my unit the, “I'll do the overtime but I'm not doing the D2D,” offer to my manager often wins the day when he wants the delivery covered and his back is up against the wall or he see this as a compromise in making savings as opposed to paying for a casual worker. In fact the problem is so bad that the manager accepts that overtime staff will not be doing the D2D without a mention to them before and after the event.
The problem for those in delivery whom voted for this deal is that they have not got their head around the idea that 'in workload' means that D2D is to be treated as if it were standard mail you don't get paid per item, you don't get paid any more for delivering it on other walks but you are required to do 1/6 or a pro rata amount equivalent to the amount of any delivery you will be covering that day. It may look like a benefit that you will get the subsidy when you are on leave but the only winner here is RM because they are going to get a great amount done for a expenditure that is less than they have been paying, especially when the number of items per a household rises in the months to come. When walks come under revision, and this is part of the deal, it normally means deliveries become larger, we will be delivering even greater amount of this $#!£ for only £20.60.
At my local area CWU AGM recently, Dave Ward, tried to sell us this as a good idea. He said that up stream mail numbers were falling but at the same time admitted that those in deliveries would not have noticed this due to the down stream access. Personally I could not understand the logic. D2D is not going to aid Mail Center staff in saving Mail Centers but unfairly places a even greater burden on delivery staff whom are buckling under the current workloads. Why did not Dave Ward make it a provision with in the deal that the D2D component would not be implemented until the the walk revisions had been carried out and the new machinery had been implemented. In my area that is not until late 2011. As it now stands we have to contend with oversized deliveries and what ever RM can load us with the D2D.
The 2010 deal has not dealt with the proper problems of RM. The fact that RM accept DSA mail for less income than RM can provide a service for up stream mail of their own, means RM constantly loses money from this endeavor. Counter balancing by raising the price of a stamp only drives customers to the, so called, competition. Scrimping and saving with in the business is just delaying the inevitable collapse and worsening the service to customer in the mean time. If RM was not an government owned business the business would have sunk long ago. Place any, purported profit against the pension deficit and a private business would not survive. The reason RM can report a profit, albeit artificially, is that we are continually prepared to do more for less. We work under an artificial competitive environment where RM is not allowed or not wanting properly to engage the competition. It is not through the fault of the employees that this company is in such a tragic situation. The fact that no matter which party is in power, that they are continuously trying to shaft us by selling RM off is a constant slap in the face to every worker.
When will members learn not to vote for carrot payments and look at the bigger picture? Why did I go on strike? I scratch my head.
Well, that is my rant for the Bank Holiday. All have a good one!

Dont worry about it.
You cant change anything. Have you not learnt that yet?
This has to be one of the few jobs where you have to squeeze a certain amount of work into a certain amount of hours. Shop workers, bank clerks, cabin crew etc dont have this problem. Its a dumb way to run a business when you think about it.
Can you imagine a shop worker having to serve strict number of customers in 8 hours or get threatened/bullied for not working hard enough? Of course not!
Work your hours and cut off or claim. Thats all you can do.
Your just an elaborate paper boy afterall.
