Re: Doorstepping
Had a small packet once and the old guy wasn't in, knew he had mobility trouble so knocked the neighbour up to save him getting someone to go to the DO. Neighbour said she'd take it and she looked respectable enough so I said 'do you want me to put a note through so he knows you've got it?' She said 'yeah no problem'. That was Sat. Monday the guy told me he went to get his packet and she denied she had it!!!
If she wanted to nick it why tell me to leave a note?
I also asked her for it but she denied to me that I gave her it.
Told the guys son to calll the police but he let it go and put a note on the door for future deliveries not to be left with her. TBH think she wasn't all there.

Common sense posties - leaving items in a safe place - shed, blue bin (NOT on collection week as they could be on holiday!)
Jobsworths - Leaving nothing whatsoever and a 739 for every piece of cr*p that won't fit through the box.

Re: Doorstepping
I never leave anything that can be seen from the street, but if I'm honest I'm always leaving things in porches, open garages, in back gardens and in recycle tubs down the sides and round the back of houses.
I have only been with Royal Mail for 2 years and that's how I was trained. I have a verbal agreement with all of my regular packet receiving customers as to where I may leave a packet.
Light bulbs are a different story, Our DOM says we can doorstep them so Its one ring of the bell, count 10 seconds, if there is no sign of life then drop em on the doorstep and off to the next one.
