If anybodys office was to go to a 4 day week, you would incur job losses as you would have to up your delivery to say 4hrs
So roughly,a walk would pick up say 1/4 of another walk,4 walks doing this = 1 job loss.
The bigger the office the bigger the loss, when we did it at our place,we managed to lose about 3 duties but no staff, due to having vacancies and peeps leaving anyway.
Be careful what you wish for.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well I was basing my premise on your office pmn - so if your delivery is say 4 hrs - what do you do for the other 6hrs?POSTMAN wrote:If anybodys office was to go to a 4 day week, you would incur job losses as you would have to up your delivery to say 4hrs

and yes I am bothered if by having a lie in on a saturday it means 1 in 6 jobs will be lost
we need to protect all the jobs we can
Whats the point of keeping saturdays if that means unmanagable workloads, bullying and harassment, no pay rises, lapsing, plus jobs going anyhow?
I do see why people have strong views about saturdays, it being part of a tradition and good service, but it isn't about sorting a weekend off for all postmen to have a lie in. It's about finding a solution to relieve the pressure off the company and the staff, but minimising the loss of service at the same time.
A skeleton service on saturdays at SA. No compulsory redundancies. Workload spread into mondays and tuesdays. Lapsing removed.
The lawmakers need to wake up......

This why we are having problems down here, although it's gradually getting sorted...dvbuk55 wrote:Well I was basing my premise on your office pmn - so if your delivery is say 4 hrs - what do you do for the other 6hrs?POSTMAN wrote:If anybodys office was to go to a 4 day week, you would incur job losses as you would have to up your delivery to say 4hrs

4hr walk
15+15 mins out/back 30mins
50mins meal relief
That leaves 4hrs 40mins indoor work we have to fill
IPS and prep our own duties, now we are looking at prepping part timers duties as well, question is,will RM swallow 4:40 mins inside, especially with the WSM's coming in?
There is a plan B and C for us,which we don't want to go to.

Re: Saturday Feck'n Deliveries
One of the biggest problems faced now with trying to do away with a Saturday delivery pattern is that Downstream Access Users and Marketing Companies are being told by surveys that mail received by the public on a Saturday, is (allegedly!) more likely to be read there and then, and have a more positive reaction/responsebanner18 wrote:feduppostie wrote:the USO is the only thing that separates us from the rest

Regrettably from experience outside of RM, in a mail order company, Saturdays were usually the best day IIRC our marketing departments figures were:plainpat wrote:One of the biggest problems faced now with trying to do away with a Saturday delivery pattern is that Downstream Access Users and Marketing Companies are being told by surveys that mail received by the public on a Saturday, is (allegedly!) more likely to be read there and then, and have a more positive reaction/responsebanner18 wrote:feduppostie wrote:the USO is the only thing that separates us from the rest

Weekday all MS response around 3%
Saturday MS1 or MS2 was on average 5% response.
D2D was 1% or less.
Insert into council letters. (we worked with them a lot in recycling) 10% to 15% (but that's by the by)
This does not sound a lot but with average sales per call being in the region of £35 the company just from my current delivery would make using the figures above
weekday 18 response £630
Saturday 30 response £1050
D2D 6 responses £210
of course what has to be taken into account is that D2D is cheaper per item whereas MS1 and MS2 is more expensive so business have to balance initial costs against potential income. In some cases a D2D was the best option, in others targeted Saturdays despite the high outlay cost was better - its a judgement call.

Re: Saturday Feck'n Deliveries
If they take the limit off d2d will it still be done over five days or will we have to take them out on Saturdays?

And I'd be one of them. In total agreement, mate.DirtyHarry wrote: Since SDD, every agreement reached by Crozier and the CWU has led to somebody, somewhere, being thrown to the scrapheap. After the next fiasco of a deal, any confidence I had of seeing out my working life in Royal Mail will evaporate.
I'm getting older, my health is all shot to buggery thanks to this job, and my union seems incapable of stemming this depressing tide.
But, I'm not alone in feeling this way, I could form several legions of postal workers who feel as I do
Just spilt stain-remover down my shirt. Now how do I get that out?
