And when the manager wants the floater to work his day off, and the floater says fine ,I'll do mclovins duty. How will you feel when you get shafted off your walk onto the shitiest walk in the office that you've not done before? "what does it matter where you do your hours as long as you get paid" Fair enough on a saturday?mclovin wrote:I will ONLY do my own duty on my day off, simple as. And as I'm the only one off that day who's actually willing to work their day off thats exactly what happens. Luckily for me I dont have a regular floater so no-one gets messed around. If it was the case good luck to the gaffer getting another duty covered.

For the manager to want a floater to work his day off would mean there is a duty free and available for him to do with no-one else to cover it, so there would be no need to bring him in to do mine, which would not be.

That would never happen and you know it.
We've all been f***ed around with duties at one time or another, its crap but it happens.

It's what you do every time you do OT on your own walk . The floater gets moved off his regular duty to accommodate you.mclovin wrote:That would never happen and you know it.

To be honest though ,the floater only has himself to blame. If he was assertive and simply refused then there is nothing that you or your manager could do about it. Failure to act fairly and without favour is a cast iron case of discrimination.

Re: backstabbing fellow posties
It works both ways.
I'm FT with my own duty and have just had a week off - I left a dozen out of 70 boxes of light bulbs that came a few days before I went off - when I went back yesterday not one had been taken, the D2D's for this week hadn't been touched and all the dead mail was left in a box next to the frame.
My normal cover guy is great, but it was done by 2 or 3 different floaters during the last week - IME 50%+ don't bother taking a thing for the regular duty holder.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: backstabbing fellow posties
No its not actually, as explained earlier, there is no floater for mine and 4 others duties so when I work my day off no-one gets shifted. TBH I'm hardly going to come in on my day off to do a crappy walk am I. Its my choice at the end of the day and if the gaffer wants to get duties covered then good luck to him. Simple really, I'm not going to work my day off to wet nurse someone else.BELIAL wrote:It's what you do every time you do OT on your own walk . The title of the thread is 'backstabbing fellow posties', so no it isn't.BELIAL wrote:Irrelevant ,off topic
It's not just floaters that get sh*t on, half of them in my office take as little as possible when only doing each duty for a day.

I think you might have to consider the title along with the first post to pinpoint the posters desired topic of discussion.OnAFlyer wrote:The title of the thread is 'backstabbing fellow posties', so no it isn't.BELIAL wrote:Irrelevant ,off topic

However I will concede that given your definition of relevance ,the contributions you have made more than meet the criteria

Why is your floating duty uncovered ? and for how long?If there is a duty free and your office has reserves why has this duty not been offered?mclovin wrote:No its not actually, as explained earlier, there is no floater for mine and 4 others duties so when I work my day off no-one gets shifted. Been like that for as far back as I can remember, there are quite a few duties free.
I'm hardly gonna question the gaffer when I can work my day off most weeks, now am I?
