Re: Why I will be crossing the picket line.
ogg there are people in just as bad situations as yourself but would never consider letting other people fight their cause for them while they sit in the office pocketing a days wage, if you was in the army and war broke out and you had to fight would you hide in the bushes and let your collegues battle it out. I hope if we win this battle agaisnt the management you are willing to not take any of the benefits, i hope you are willing to offer to absorb walks for the managers each day while the people who fought not to can enjoy their earlier finishes. I hope if we get a pay rise you decline it, i hope if we get a bonus you give it to charity. By scabbing for whatever reason you do not deserve to benefit if we do obtain a victory and if we do lose this battle you won't have no right to complain about the way we are treated on a daily basis anymore. By scabbing in my eyes you give up that right and any decent honest person would accept that. I understand you dont want sympathy but everyone else has to make the same sacrifice you do by striking and many others cant afford to do it either but they will because they are morally right and are willing to fight hand in hand for the cause.
I really hope there is someway you can reconsider your decision, isn't there anything else you can do on that day to earn some extra cash? or is there no chance of getting some overtime when we are not having a strike day.

Re: Why I will be crossing the picket line.
I voted no for the first time ever, But I will not be crossing the picket line as I accept the vote of the majority.
I voted no and the main reason was the recession.
However if even just some of the posts on this forum are to be believed then our friends in Delivery offices are really suffering and need some protection.
When I started a hard delivery meant two pouches, taking rebate (now mailsort?) and getting 2 and half hours o/t for gas bills.
It seems a much harder job now.
On top of that there is the greivence over our pensions.
It appears to me that Labour (Mandleson) and RM are conspiring to privatise.
Mandleson is miffed and has spat his dummy out.
We have to stick together, so I will go with the majority vote and stay out.
It just means my credit card will have to be used!

Stormproof wrote:As I said in the 2007 strikes, I'm a single parent, I've 2 teenage kids 15 & 16, the older one has moved in with his dad, so I have to pay his dad, though his dad don't pay for the 15 year old because he's work shy. Obviously I only have my wage coming into the house and have to pay all the usual rent/bills etc, the kids birthdays are in november, then we've got xmas, so we all have financial commitments! BUT THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD EVER CROSS THE PICKET LINE! Do you think we want to strike? No. But RM have left us no other option the kids will have to learn to go without again this year as they did in 2007 and 2003.
Good on you girl

Well thanks for not taking aim and yes I am torn between the right and wrong thing to do. I honestly thought if I simply told it like it is then some might actually think before replying, and it's not as if it's just one days loss of earnings that bother me either...and Prestwick' are you aware that you come across like a total f**kwit?krussel wrote:Ogg,

Ogg....I respect your honesty by showing your face as you cross your own line and not some one elses like the other strike breakers will.......
But please , forget the insults here , they will be nothing like what you will have to FACE in person from your fellow workers.
Remember .....money buys lots of things but all the money in the world wont buy back your friendships and conscience once we are back to work.
Trust me , Ive been there.
Join your fellow strikers mate.

Re: Why I will be crossing the picket line.
There will be many and some who post on this site who will talk a good fight but in reality are going to cross the picket line.
Even though I am a staunch supporter of the union as you yourself have been I have questioned the manner in which the union have conducted themselves over the last two years since the 2007 agreement. Many of the problems we have and are facing are totally attributable to the lack of awareness by the union on the way the agreement has been applied, which has resulted in this dispute.
I cannot, though, cross the picket line and come 5 am next Friday I will be standing at the gate just as I did last time, the time before that and the time before that. I cannot claim poverty and in truth won't suffer very much financially and that is because I am older and only work part time now.
However, years ago I was the sole provider for a wife, 2 children, a mortgage and at that time it wasn't 1 days pay it was continuous striking, not with RM then of course and I and my family survived intact. It means managing finances and doing without and relying on family for food and essentials. For many weeks after I went without meals just to save money.
Self respect is far more important than the prospect of bankruptcy, which is quite common and there are many debt management companies. If you must then you must, but I think you will find it hard to justify in your own mind once you have crossed the line.
