Well we know its the rule but they don't.
They say you can't prep the 20% in their time and local union wont help.Need some written clarification from some higher up union man really or i'm just going round in circles with our manager.
Or maybe you could come to our office and tell him lol.

There's your answer. Don't do it in their time, don't do it in yours. Explain you don't work for free. Don't do them, the manager will soon sort something out.

Then they say "you get an extra payment blah blah" "deliver them from your bag, don't bother putting them in the frame blah blah"
Now as i said our office has crumbled and given up moaning. Some don't see the fuss and just come in 10 mins early. Some just shove them in their bags. Some are too scared to complain i suspect. Some just aren't bothered.
My union rep and his superior don't see the fuss.To me its a matter of principle.
This agreement stands but standing alone in my office and having no union backing i can't do s**t.

Thing is this argument of "we get a payment, do in your own time" is very weak. Why:

1. They are not voluntary, they have to be delivered.
2. Overtime is voluntary and you cannot be forced to do it.

So if they say you have to do it in your own time they are breaking point no 2 unless its voluntary.
If they say you are paid extra so you have to do them as per point 1 fine but to avoid breaking point 2 you have to do it during their time.

Say to them I will do them during my own time if they are voluntary and I can chose whether to do them or not because overtime is voluntary and cannot be forced on you.

or is it part of my job and therefore should be completed within work time.

They cannot have their cake and eat - its either voluntary and done in your time if you want to do it or its compulsory and done in work time it cant be both.

True Blue is spot on RM have been trying to change the rules on D2Ds since they started.

Firstly they weren't part of your duty and you could refuse to deliver them.
Then they became part of you duty and you must deliver them during your work hours.
Now they are trying to change the rules and want us to deliver them in our own time on top of our normal duty.

I've had this one with a manager who didn't likethe fact that I was booking overtime O/T when part of the reason is down to D2Ds. He didn't like the fact that I was getting O/T plus getting d2d payments.
Also when I was tested for my pre rate he didn't include or take into account the row of D2Ds that I threw in (it must of been the invisible man)

The simple fact is that D2D should be done in you normalwork hours, if not then RM is forcing you to do compulsory O/T.
While I'm on my soapbox how long have we been getting 1.67p per item it seems a very very long time. I bet t hat RM have increased there charges to the customer.
Also does Pegusus take into account that later on in the week you deliver to houses that have no mail only D2D items.

To anybody who is finding the job difficult remember that there are others in th same boat and to keep your chin up.

Well hooray ! After firing off my email the union did get back to me. Seems that under the D2D agreement they ARE to be delivered during your delivery time span. They can be delivered over the six delivery days if necessary, but any delivery done over your normal time counts as overtime. Mind you, finishing half an hour early on a Tuesday, and booking half an hour on a Wednesday overtime to do D2D's, might be deemed as taking the p*ss !
One area of confusion seems to be the prepping of these items.
There is nothing in the agreement to say they have to be prepped in works time, only delivered. It was union conference policy that that be included, but as yet, it is not part of the agreement.
Maybe this is why linos are harrasing people into prepping them in their own time....... :hmmmm

Is the delivery of DOOR TO DOOR items a requirement or a request!. Is it part of one's work or hobby. DOOR TO DOOR IS TO BE PREPPED DELIVERED AND PAYED FOR AS PART OF YOUR DUTY NO IF'S NOR BUT'S

Correct,i had an issue over this with my DOM regarding a colleague, and pointed out they
had to be 'absorbed' within the duty.
He said he would have to look into it,but unsurprisingly never got back to us!

Rather depressingly,i have heard from another D.O. that they are taking them home
to prep them because they haven't got time.
just to point out this is not an instruction from the management,it is merely what they are
doing themselves. :no no

I think your manager's very reasonable. you should prep D2D in your own time. you should also deliver them in your own time and while you're at it why don't you prep the letters and packets in your own time ? While your delivering the D2D you might as well do the rest of the stuff - you're going there anyway aren't you? Oh and why don't you buy a car, insure and tax it, buy the petrol and take the stuff out in that ? Some of these managers must think we are completely stupid. There is a national agreement regarding D2D I suggest you read it then read it to your DOM if he can't read - a lot of them seem to have trouble reading agreements. :dance

I disagree they can read them OK it just seems that they can find loopholes or different ways of reading it than was originaly intended, or if this can't be done they just ignore it altogether.
