Re: Pay rise 1st April
Why can’t we get 2% on April 6th, then the difference of the inflation (whatever it is), to be renegotiated.Watch RM open negotiations, not pay the 2%, then we have to wait until September for any money at all

Re: Pay rise 1st April
There must be a financial reason why Royal Mail prefers to drag negotiations out for months instead of settling on a deal straight away and it’s probably got to do with the number of employees who will leave the job from now up until September or October when a deal is agreed saving the company from not backdating their money.

Re: Pay rise 1st April
If RM paid 2% now they know they'd be no real incentive for CWU members to accept 3% in a few months time!Postie123469753 wrote: ↑17 Mar 2026, 15:56Why can’t we get 2% on April 6th, then the difference of the inflation (whatever it is), to be renegotiated.Watch RM open negotiations, not pay the 2%, then we have to wait until September for any money at all

Re: Pay rise 1st April
its pretty poor from cwu every year the pay rise is never in place for april for when its supposed to be, does anyone think the cwu will exist in 10 years time, the membership will be well down as its a shite payed job now

Re: Pay rise 1st April
Surely the only way it wont exist is if we were to all join a different Union. I for one would prefer this Union to none at all. Anyway who would choose no Union over the CWU, is a bit foolish in my opinion.postmanplod2026 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2026, 10:30its pretty poor from cwu every year the pay rise is never in place for april for when its supposed to be, does anyone think the cwu will exist in 10 years time, the membership will be well down as its a shite payed job now

Re: Pay rise 1st April
i would prefer a different union one thats fair for all the offices make sure every office gets resigns instead of ones with just union reps in it, it seems if u dont have a union rep in ur office anything goes, from seniority being dismissed when vacant walks come up for new starts to jump on to, whereas if ur in a office with a rep there more likely to challenge things like seniority first, but not bother with rest of offices, a change could be good get a union that represents every office not just ones that reps are present at,its a fair point as a lot of offices dont feel there getting any sort of union representation in it left to rot when it comes to allocating walks.

Re: Pay rise 1st April
From April Tescos are paying £13.28 per hour..
Be interesting to see what RM sets the new hourly rate at! staff retention on new contracts is already very low - surely they have to at least match the new tescos rate and really it should be higher due to the working in all weathers and insane workloads.

Re: Pay rise 1st April
That's hardly the CWU's fault if nobody is prepared to stand as a union rep in certain DO's, why would a change of union make any difference anyway, any new union would still have the problem of dealing with DO's with no reps?postmanplod2026 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2026, 14:54i would prefer a different union one thats fair for all the offices make sure every office gets resigns instead of ones with just union reps in it, it seems if u dont have a union rep in ur office anything goes, from seniority being dismissed when vacant walks come up for new starts to jump on to, whereas if ur in a office with a rep there more likely to challenge things like seniority first, but not bother with rest of offices, a change could be good get a union that represents every office not just ones that reps are present at,its a fair point as a lot of offices dont feel there getting any sort of union representation in it left to rot when it comes to allocating walks.

Re: Pay rise 1st April
As daft as it sounds it many not be down to the union but down to RM dragging it out, unless you're happy to take RM's opening offer in future?postmanplod2026 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2026, 10:30its pretty poor from cwu every year the pay rise is never in place for april for when its supposed to be, does anyone think the cwu will exist in 10 years time, the membership will be well down as its a shite payed job now

Re: Pay rise 1st April
Aldi and m&s are gonna be paying £13.50 in April.
Royal mail always looking at the gig economy model as the competition.
But really we're losing staff cause there's potentially easier jobs for the same pay as the new contracts.
The competition now is staff retention Vs other companies on the national stage.

Re: Pay rise 1st April
The inflation rate is released tomorrow 25/3, so depending on that figure doesn't there have to be negotiations if it's above a certain rate?
As others have said if that's the case might not get it for a while unless DK's feeling v. generous and gives us the minimum agreed (was it 2%?) and the rest (if higher than 2) negotiated for a later date. Can't see it myself.
