It's not "running a business", but RM managers seeing their manhours budgets getting close to being used up, and if that happens they lose their bonuses.
The end of the financial year is approaching, as is the time when their bonuses will be calculated.
But sadly no allowances by senior management that packets are up over 10% so logic would suggest that man hours need to increase by a similar amount, we're back to concentrating on delivering 1c and Tracked.

Are the extra packets arriving as direct yorks from the superhubs? Packets in the MC are noticeably down. Direct yorks of packets from the hub don't get seen by processing, once they come off the lorry they go straight over to the relevant loading bays.

No idea where they are coming from as they arrive via our local MC, regardless if packets were up over 10% during peak they'll still be 10% up on this time last year. Although every day lately seems like "peak" with Christmas being super peak!

I don’t think parcels/packets increased at all. What did increase was the amount of items with a Tracked label on them and that’s what is piling the pressure on.

Black Friday fortnight took the sting out of Christmas, again, and made it easier.

If the york label is purple and white then it has come from one of the superhubs

Not an overtime ban as such, but agency all finished and no absence or sickness cover. No one asked to work their day off as they need to meet their budget. Some rounds haven’t touched the mail since New Year’s Eve

I hope that your office is reporting the failures correctly. Lying management over the years are part of what's led to the continuous chopping of office hours. Each subsequent manager ends up more screwed by the previous lies until it gets to where you are now. Really screwed!

That was completely different than what most posters seem to be suggesting, we've been inundated with oversized tracked parcels since at least November, today was probably the first day Tracked items were back to a normal mud week amount.

I think what is skewing it is that the walks have been made bigger and we are short staffed.

Using the observable state of the office as a proxy for measuring packet volumes...
they shot up two days before Halloween and subsided moderately in the middle of November before ramping back up to that extreme at the end of the month. Levels did not alleviate through December (or rather every walk was maxed out so further increase was no longer observable, except for the sheer number of agency present) until the last few days before Christmas when they plunged, dried up between Christmas and New Year, then exploded right back to Black Friday levels on the 3rd.

On that last note, we're talking a truly astonishing inversion - like the flick of a light switch. 'Let there be packets'.
The machine stops.

So has this overtime ban actually happened anywhere yet. We are failing badly even with loads of overtime being put in.

I think offices have a set budget, but are so understaffed at present, they can sign off on almost unlimited overtime. In our office, every member of staff could work 20 hours of O/T weekly, and I don’t think we’d be over-budget.

Indoor overtime has been greatly reduced and working your day off has been curtailed.
It isn't a ban but a reduction.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
