What should or could a manager do to persuade a experienced hard working postie to stay with the company?

They can't pay them extra

They shouldn't be offering more overtime than their colleagues

They shouldn't be giving them an easier workload than their colleagues

And they certainly shouldn't be saying "stick around things are going to improve"

We all need to face up to the fact we are cannon fodder in the eyes of RM, easily replaceable

They could level up the duties so one is not virtually uncompletable on busy days when others are, his replacement is now struggling to compete and will probably follow him out of the door.

Observation would tend to indicate that belief is fallacious. Although it might be that it was the job that was replaced, not the staff, and that's the source of the insurmountable problem.

If this were twenty years ago I reckon offices would still clear even with the immense churn. It's the packets wot did it.
The machine stops.

I work with Angard and the pay is still £13.37. Last year it was £16+ at this time of year. I'll be taking an easier job next year for sure with less Saturday work if available.

No individual manager can do anything.
We are suffering from systemic incompetence. There is no quick fix.

Until everyone in this business who is "above" CWU representation grade. Learn a level of logic, critical thinking, communication and maths skills above primary school level this business will will continue on its downward spiral.

The first step is listening to anyone with 15+ years of DO or MC operational experience and somehow still finds the pride the employer has long forgotten

Given that most duties are now unachievable within scheduled hours, managers need to recognise that RM is planning to fail. Some posties might choose to stay out and complete their rounds on OT, but others don't - and that has to be accepted.

When managers try and push for more productivity within unrealistic hours, it's futile and breeds resentment. Overtime is a voluntary choice rather than an unspoken expectation simply because RM has moved everyone's goalposts beyond reach.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

This, definitely, unfortunately pride has gone & the CWU are still dealing with a board that still thinks its there company to run.
New owner has little to no influence, he never even signed your Xmas card with 50 2nd class stamps!
But completely agree with this, just never going to happen.

The board has changed a lot since the takeover

Following the takeover of International Distributions Services (IDS) plc by EP UK Bidco Limited (EP Group) in June 2025, there were significant changes to the IDS board of directors.

Key Board Changes:
New Chairman: Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský was appointed as the new Chairman of the IDS Board and the board of directors of Royal Mail.

New Non-Executive Directors: Daniel Křetínský, along with Jan Bílek, Roman Šilha, Daniel Mareš, and Marek Janča, were appointed as non-executive directors representing EP Group. Additionally, Jiří Zrůst was appointed as an independent non-executive director. Dwain McDonald was also appointed as a director in August 2025.

Departing Non-Executive Directors: The previous non-
executive directors, including the former chairman Keith Williams, Sarah Hogg, Maria de Cunha, Michael Findlay, Lynne Peacock, Shashi Verma, Jourik Hooghe, and Ingrid Ebner, all tendered their resignations effective June 2, 2025, as part of the takeover process.

Remaining Executive Directors: Martin Seidenberg (Group Chief Executive Officer) and Michael Snape (Group Chief Financial Officer) have remained in their executive roles and continue to serve on the IDS Board.

The changes followed the formal delisting of IDS shares from the London Stock Exchange on June 2, 2025, as the company became a private limited company under EP Group ownership

Isn't it still all the same senior management, the people the board probably take guidance from for all the big decisions effecting us? Outsider "Emma" soon came and went!

Assuming the CWU update tomorrow is bad news then the company is being run just as it was under the old board.

We've just been told our office does not get the seasonal pay rate from Angard so looks like our office will be a number of bodies down from next week.

Seems Angard have took it upon themselves to pick and choose which offices qualify which is unbelievable and can't accept that so I'll find something part time sitting on my backside for roughly the same money and better conditions. :no no
