We are told to submit the request through the app and then our manager will say yes or no and then update the app.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑04 Apr 2024, 21:04Smoothbackground wrote: ↑04 Apr 2024, 20:14Our office doesn’t like the app either. I don’t know why some aren’t using it because it’s one of the few useful bits of the app.

Re: Holidays
You could go on WorkFace and shame them in front of the head honchos just by asking an innocent question like ‘why aren’t we allowed to request odd days of leave through the app?’

Re: Holidays
I agree completely. Is it something to do with the union though? (Our union rep and his appointee deal with keying in the hol forms, getting time away from their walk and indoor duties respectively to process them, and I wonder if a stink has previously been kicked up…)ted_e_bear wrote: ↑04 Apr 2024, 21:04Smoothbackground wrote: ↑04 Apr 2024, 20:14Our office doesn’t like the app either. I suppose Russia's invasion of Ukraine was somehow the CWU's doing as well?

Re: Holidays
Using the app works here but managers don’t seem to appreciate you doing so. I don’t know why however.

Re: Holidays
I don't think it's officially anything to do with the union but I think you'll find at local level in some offices the managers will palm off if possible aspects of their work that they can't be arsed to deal with themselves, I've heard on here of managers allowing the rep to allocate overtime which I think is also wrong, for some reps this new found "power" gives them really undeserved delusions of grandeur and as you say gets them out of real work all with management blessing.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 05:20I agree completely. Imho the ability to request leave electronically should be carried all the way through to show if a slot is available and if so the ability to book it, this current system is simply an alternative method of asking someone.

Re: Holidays
It creates a digital paper trail. In my office unless you're a favourite any leave request gets refused or ignored, or dangled in front of you to ensure complete compliance to 'earn' such a luxury as a day off for a funeral
A 'manager' can easily deny recieving requests made on paper or verbally.
Some digging has led me to understand that if the digital request hasn't been actioned, approved OR refused, within a certain time frame (I think a couple of weeks) the system bumps it up the chain of command.
So based on my experiences, managers don't like it because it is a way of them being tracked in their roles. They'd much rather be able to get away with ignoring as much work as possible

This. Use the app to make a record of your request. Even though you might still have to personally speak to them, use the app to ensure they action it.crazyshrew wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 10:08It creates a digital paper trail. Re: Holidays
From the people app in January 2024; (Verbatim)
Annual Leave - Taking breaks from work
Taking a break from work is vitally important to your health & wellbeing
Employees can carry over (c/o) up to 5 days leave (or contractual equivalent) each year.
Above this requires written permission from your manager.
Those with excessive c/o leave need to reduce this in line with our policy. From 01/04/24, employees need to reduce their c/o leave by 31/08/24 as agreed with their manager.
If you carried over less than three weeks into 2023/24 you need to book and use it by 31/08/24.
Exceptionally, if you carried over more than three weeks into 2023/24 you need to book and use it by 31/08/25
Unless there is an exceptional reason remaining c/o leave will be lost (see fact sheet) This approach then applies annually.

Re: Holidays
That makes a lot of sense. I also like having my holidays down as accepted on the app. Especially if I have to take an odd day here or there, as you can screen grab it and use it as confirmation if anything goes wrong and they expect you in. Although I’m not entirely sure they can cancel leave once it is in the system as accepted anyway.crazyshrew wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 10:08It creates a digital paper trail. I did elaborate. You just chose not to quote that part. Though now I see my mistake. Reading comprehension perhaps isnt a strong suit for you. I thought I made it fairly clear that I believe you to be a troll because you somehow find a way to lay blame at the unions feet in all matters.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑05 Apr 2024, 19:04How so, chum? I think you are just here as an agitator.
I thought saying "I suppose Russia's invasion of Ukraine was somehow the CWU's doing as well?" made that fairly clear.
Not to bother though. All cleared up now.
