Unlike some of the other changes compulsory Sundays could not be implemented using executive action, the law on sunday working is clear, it must be by agreement either individually or collectively.

I used to work every Sunday when I was young and single. Loved it. Now I got grandkids there's no way I want to do it. The other day I couldn't make a family Saturday outing. Later my granddaughter said why do you always work ? Broke my heart. I'd leave rather than miss them growing up.

I’m not sure if I follow the implied logic where that if you signed for a driving duty or shared van driver over a decade ago you were putting yourself forward for working Sundays in the distant future.

Those who chose to drive for Royal Mail rather than be employed on a contract with driving can come off the driving at any time though. Unlike those employed on a driving contract, they aren’t obligated to drive. There have been people in my office who have became non drivers who once were drivers.

Most of those drivers when push comes to shove prefer staying on their duty though
