Re: Extreme weather
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: Extreme weather
What’s the general consensus then? Is a large proportion going to be off then?

Re: Extreme weather
The Met Office has issued a second rare red weather warning to cover London, the south-east and east of England.
So you would think if they cancelled services in Wales where the other red warning is.... then services should surely be cancelled in London, the south east and east?
or are we supposed to go out and get hit by flying fences and branches?

Maybe London, us in the rest of the SE are on the same pay as everyone else.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
Illegitimi non carborundum

Told not to come in by manager about 2 hours ago, here in central(ish) London! Noticed amber warning turning to RED from 10am.

Re: Extreme weather
I've been told by my manager not to come in today too. He said I would have the day off unpaid or if I want to come in for around 3pm (when the storm is expected to finish) and do my contracted hours (5 hours - I'm part time officially although I was always do 8 hour plus days) then I can.
Is this correct? Should I be paid as it's a decision made because of adverse weather and not by myself?

Re: Extreme weather
I would lay good money that not everyone in your office was told that. There are always people in offices that managers perceive as 'easy touches' were they can get them to do what they want be saying things like that. Make sure everyone was told the same as you were. In our office there's a couple that are sort of emotionally blackmailed into doing things that through no fault of their own go wrong but are always the ones approached because they won't kick up a fuss

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Sounds fair and hope you're right. But what about tomorrow? Would be taking out today's and tomorrows duty. What should happen pay-wise?Not correct, get rep on to it.

Re: Extreme weather
Super Si passing the buck about crap managers too scared to make a decision...
OPG
Left with colleagues being given choice of go home and make up time or use their annual leave, or remain at work and then travel home still during red warning. Priceless way to look after the safety of your employees.
Simon 'Bit windy ain't it?' Thompson
my view - which is why I have been posting on this topic for the last few days - staying safe is the number 1 priority - local leaders to decide….
