So what is the point? It will probably need a scan at the door... It is just a clumsy move. Messing around taking photos of parcels while avoiding taking that of the customer...
I have seen couriers do it but they do not have a bag on their shoulder and bundles of mail on one hand.
Rubbish PDA and rain and all the extras mentioned above...

I think you'll find that they're normally using the exact same physical PDAs as us. The difference is what version of Android they're running and whatever their equivalent is of the RM software on their PDAs (probably RM and each courier will have their own software custom made)
Even Tescos deliveries use the same PDA, I think the software is basically the same but with the relevant corporate branding and requirements overlaid.

Yep. Not every firm will have the version of android up to date. I believe that we used to be a couple of versions behind the current version of Android, no idea how many versions behind we currently are.
Each firm will have it's own requirements and will have had apps coded that meet them requirements, that run on Android
Had 3 parcels today reguired photo. This is on a round ive been on for over 2yrs and know the customers.
Two of them was not in but have always left there parcel down the side of house. So they went back to office. The other one is a lady who got a chair lift.Ive always put parcel in her lock up.I had to wait for her too come too door and then explain. She was annoyed at RM not me.I told her all she can do is reguest safe place if it is an option.
Spoke to DOM ......He said just leave it if u know them.!! I explained u cant it wont give u option to not take photo or add comment. Oh ok was the answer.
Thus is going to fun festive season.

The difference is they've just got out of a nice warm and dry van not stood soaking wet after pushing an HCT for hours, so their PDA's are nice and dry, even if they get wet they can just pop back to their van and get a cloth to wipe the PDA's screen. Photo capture is only really suitable for posties doing parcel deliveries using a van, or if rains (or snow!) has not been forecast.
Yesterday was the launch of our new capture photo on delivery service.
We delivered 3,810 Boohoo items that required a photo. A fantastic 99% of these items had their photo taken.
That is huge credit to all our Delivery Colleagues for following the correct process so a big THANK YOU to you all.
53 which didn’t have a photo were due to reported camera failures, if you experienced a camera failure then please report to your line manager so they can report the PDA as faulty to the iT helpdesk, and get it fixed.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Whether the couriers use the same PDA is not the only issue but RM has a large number of staff, the PDA are carried around and battered by many hands and we are not just delivering parcels
Oh, the new PDA are not as great as claimed - they still get affected by rain (not as much but early days), swiping can be a problem, some do not respond and batteries have to be taken out, no extra batteries, camera is a little slow (buffered before appearing) and the network and software can be an issue too.
We are just going to confuse and annoy some customers as they are not used to these photo taking procedure - it might make them feel that they are no be trusted

This is the caliber of the management that you trust over the front line workforce Simon. Do you think someone at home helped him get dressed before the interview? RMs share price tumbles at prospect of management's mams not being around forever.
"A third of the world's farmland is now useless due to soil degradation, yet we still keep producing mouths to feed. And what's you answer to that? Energy saving lightbulbs?"
Not heard a thing about it at our office. Had one today, posted it walked off went to submitted and it came up with a long line of text saying what I needed to do. Didn’t tell me anything until hitting the submit as delivered button, walked back took a picture of the front door and moved on. A warning before I posted would have been good.

Yeah, I wouldn't know about it if I hadn't read the LTB a few weeks ago.
Not a dicky bird from any clipboard warrior in our DO. It took me by surprise, despite knowing about it,when it came up on my PDA yesterday, so gawd knows how a barey trained new starter is going to feel.

I started on Monday and was lucky enough to be briefed on this on Tuesday (my 2nd day). Only yesterday (5th day) did i get the prompt come up to photocapture once I had confirmed the delivery.
