Lets face it - Royal Mail do want you to doorstep, they just cannot say that as it's unprofessional etc...

They keep bringing in things saying 'our competitors do this - so we are bringing this in too'...

yeah - also virtually all our competitors doorstep and that is a major advantage for them, they can deliver many more parcels by doorstepping than a rival company that doesn't.

No idea why RM think us taking photos of parcels is going to make any difference to their business, it's going to slow us down, we will deliver less, or be booking more overtime. Which customers care about a photo of a parcel? I wouldn't care at all about having photo evidence of delivery....

A customer could simply change their doormat and say - no that isn't my house it has a different doormat... a photo of a doorway proves nothing.

click ok buttons and get ready to take photograph
knock and ring bell on door (as normal)
retreat to end of path and turn to face door (as normal)

Youre forgetting the surprisingly frequent amount of times the customer will not actually be in the house when you knock- for example theyve just got out of the car or come round the side of the house.

For me, the last few days have actually made me question more than ever if i can continue in this job. Im a very shy person and this whole photo capture thing just adds a level of stress for me that is on top of my already increasing levels of disillusionment with the job.

Being honest, ive already resorted to taking a photo of nothing (palm of my hand, whatever) because im just finding it too much to be having to have these awkward encounters multiple times per loop.

Me too, you just have to have the mindset they need to please you to get what they want.

The parcel/s are supposed to be placed inside the recipients doorway not on the doorstep

Not according to the CPOD FAQ's v4:

What needs to be clearly shown in the captured photo?

The photo should capture item(s) placed on the doorstep with open doorway in the
background and the item label visible. No identifiable objects such as door number or
customer's face should be captured. This is in line with GDPR guidance.

basically the past few days have you all just been taking photos with the door open, if not p739 and back to the office? I am a reserve who covers duties so don’t know a lot of customers well enough anyway but I know a few duties have all there postie relationship safe places.

What you all been doing since it went live.

Just the same as we've been doing already with Boohoo etc parcels, tell the customer I need to take a photo, then take a photo, given DPD etc already do it most customers are already familiar with the process and I've not had one query it so far. If they are out then try a helpful neighbour, otherwise issue a 739, hopefully customers will soon learn they need to nominate a safe place if they are going to be out, if not they'll keep getting 739's.

So far, customers seem to be used to the idea of photo capture. However, I don`t have the time to look for a safe place that patently is n`t, or bother a neighbour and THEN have them wait for me to take the shot. P 739 city it is then.
Anyone remember Covid? surely we should still be minimising our contact with the public, not spending time on the doorstep with them ( as sociable as it is). Consequently, I STILL wear a face covering when at the door. I think it puts the customers at ease, and it protects us both . I`m the only carer for my dad, so I have to be careful. I`m the only one at my DOM who wears one in the office and in the van. I don`t care what anyone else thinks. Also, increased contact on the doorstep also increases the risk of dog attacks surely? Customers don`t seem to bother securing their dogs when opening the door.

if everyone did the job as required with photo capture it takes 30 to 40 mins longer per round.
That is potentially 2.5 hours extra per week ,times that by 110,000 posties= 270,000 extra hours per week
Thats roughly 2.7 million pounds

I've kind of mastered textures and lighting and I'm following the rule of thirds but my composition and storytelling are still poor.

Scan item; take a photo of single item; confirm single item delivery and photo is good; repeat 10s of times. At least doubling the scanning time? Or are they making this new procedure look far more achievable, scanning everything and then one photo of the heaped up pile of Tracked?

Maybe rising inflation and wages not rising enough will generally reduce parcel workload enough to make this photography more possible within contract hours. What it achieves beyond the GPS location given by the PDA if scanned at doorstep is a mystery... If the GPS is any good (which going by some recent posts of GPS showing post boxes being scanned while GPS says postie is still at depot etc.), maybe it's a pile of ****. The item hanging in the letterbox or photo of item on floor in front of open door doesn't properly identify an address, to show it was delivered to the correct address.

You can just take 1 photo of all of them. Thats what I was told anyway

Assuming the package has been delivered to the correct address then it should show the correct letterbox or front door, if a customer disputes this then they are going to have to prove it's not their address shown on the photo.
