The bullying and harrassment of colleagues, especially the weaker ones, happens on an almost daily basis in my office.
And there you have it Managers see the victims as weak i put most of the blame on them they do nothing about it and get no repercussions for doing nothing. Said it before this is an easy stress free job that some workers and managers make into a horrible stressful environment, if i was the CEO or area managers id want to know why so many people are off with stress my first port of call the managers of the offices.
Good post Steve but the area managers are generally promoted office managers and fully understand how bullying and harassment works at the DO's. The CEO's get flannel passed up from every level of management pretending that bullying and harassment isn't a problem.
The culture won't change until there is a complete clear out of those people from this business. The same fools with the same attitudes have just shuffled around this firm for years.

Unfortunately you are right the management as a rule are poor from top to bottom they are used to doing nothing they are good at it.
I get bullied daily because I talk to my manager. It seems to be the Royal Mail way that if they have the title “manager” they are not a human being like everyone else. I’m quite happy to talk to everyone and anyone but people in my office think different. The stuff I have been called you wouldn’t believe. But, how do you speak up about that? It’s me against half the office, and you speak up it’ll only make matters worse in the long run.

I wouldn't be to concerned about talking to the managers to much,I'm assuming your a new starter yes there human but they are there to get you to work first and foremost, concentrate more on staff there's more of them, put your head down and just get on with the job.
major problem with bullying in offices is the length of service some have and the high turnover managers we have. new manager comes in to a place where ppl been working 30+ years and every1 has way of doing things will find it hard to impose their rule.
we have it where daily people will be walking to shops and back whilst ppl are working i.e. sorting up mail. u got a choice then, call it out and face the backlash and be bullied by colleagues or suck it up and feel resentment for the place.
Ive had it where Ive told manager about soething like this and theyve then gone to the person and said "so and so has complained you're doing this". unbelievable
Thats because over years old timers have learnt the rules and know how to apply them from day one of the new trainee managers roles.

Nope I’ve been there 10 years! And yeah you’re right they’re there to get you to work. That is their job, am I not meant to be working? They’re the enemy because they do their job? It’s like primary school “you talking to the teacher, you teachers pet”
I think almost everyone talks to management at some point of the day but there are some who spend a lot of time talking to management when really they should be working, if this happens on the floor it tends to cause resentment.
Some people try to be friends with managers but this isn't advisable as it places the manager in a difficult position. It's not enough to be fair as a manager, you also have to be seen to be fair.
The best advice is keep any relationship with management polite but professional, keep your conversations short and work related.

No friendship here just a simple “Hello, how are you?” Carry on with work. Just like you would to any other human being. But, apparently in the world of Royal Mail that’s the worst thing you could do because managers have a different work title to you. Got to say it is the most petty immature company I have ever worked in

You're projecting your one experience on to the whole business which makes me suspicious.
Doesn't happen in my office or any of the other offices I've worked in or visited , never has and I've been around way too long, even through some periods of really poor industrial relations we keep it civil at least, not personal.
best advice give him or her no reason to get you in the office for anything and if they ever do make sure you take no bullying from them if you feel you cannot stand your ground ask a friend or a colleague to accompany you for advice or support never go in there unprepared and as soon as you make yourself known and you can stand your ground they will stay away from you.
oh btw record everything on your phone just incase it goes further as they will deny everything if you ever decide to file a grievance.

There is a lot of bullying on petty issues. Management don't bother to find out the whole issue, just pick on one or two people they see as easy targets and make petty issues. The real stuff they don't bother with so much. They also are all polite with casuals and treat a number of regulars like s**t.
1 manager recently pulled in for bullying in our office 6 serious complaints, and guess what ? yes he got off and is back at work, what really is the point of it all ,now those 6 are still in the office with him strutting around like a pig in s--t.
