What app is it? Starting as a temp doing Sundays in an area I don't know too well, dreading the loading/running around. Worked for RM for 4 years and I remember the chaos until you learn your area, which takes a looooong time.Racingpostie wrote: ↑05 Jul 2021, 21:18Somebody on another thread has mentioned the PDA's potentially could be running on an old system. The ones we have in my depo clearly are and even scanning for routine addresses it throws the street addresses and numbers of houses in the wrong boxes so again manual adjustment needed. I strongly disagree about google maps, it's far more to date than the PDA's. Long story short I've downloaded an app that does what the PDA should do so will see how that goes this Sunday.TopperGas wrote: ↑04 Jul 2021, 19:30You sense it's being rolled out on the basis it will work! Although it seems totally disorganised compared to the usual Monday to Saturday service, almost like they don't care what the quality of the service supplied, even though the customers are paying a premium for Sunday deliveries.
As far as RON is concerned I'm surprised you are suggesting it didn't supply the correct route as usually I have no issues, although with an route planner it's always going to send you the quickest route rather than what looks the shortest. News builds are no better on Google maps although given the sizeof RM you wonder why they don't produce their own mapping app to include new builds and house names given there are apps out there already which do just that.

Circuit route planner
Road warrior
upper route planner
The one I like as you can take photos for addresses as well as manual input is Droppath, you can get a free one week trial then it's about £8 a month,

Re: ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
Thanks Racing, the PDA actually had a route planner on it in the end, must have been introduced after I left a few years ago. It was OK, not as good as local knowledge but it got me around an area I didnt know that well. Although there was no PDA mount in the van, some things never change.

Re: ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
anyone got any tips on prepping?
some people don't mark in, some use red slips, some turn post around.
some put the parcels in the bundles, some keep it in a separate box/bag, some bring the oversized to the frame and match it to post/packets.
anyone got an order/system that works for them?

Re: ADVICE FOR NEW POSTIES
I put the large flats, that's A4s etc at the back of the small stuff. A lot don't, but it's a useful divider between different drops. It also, I find at least, keeps the bundle stable. Nothing worse than a mixture of sizes for one drop. Doesn't take longer to throw off into the frame.
Don't make your bundles too big. It can strain your wrist if it's too heavy. Everyones hands / fingers are bigger or smaller.
As a general rule, I break off for the next bundle, at the same point. Example, odds in one bundle, evens in anorher. People find what's best for them over time, you will too.
