Was a bit slower today as one of the huskeys was ill and I only had three dogs pulling the sleigh.
Received a lecture from one of my customers about winters in sweden.

They do not use salt only grit.
You are given one week to change the tyres on your car or you are fined.(Summer tyres/winter tyres)
The posties have special grips on the bottom of their shoes - a bit like a golf shoe but with a rubber spike.
No-one complains they just get on with it.
On he droned.I really ought to put a docket in for it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
After having a row with Area DOm about ice on paths and pavements was told to tie up last bag and managment would deliver it, today when walked in the bag was still tied up in office so had to through it back off in the frame.
So decided to take out that part, about an hour later dom comes up and says we are going to take out part of your delivery and chose the lightest part.
Any way when finished my part (from yesterday)on way back to finish off specials saw the dom and another postie delivering down both sides of the road that they had taken, why did it take two persons with only a bag when I was unindated yesterday in doing the deivery, cannot wait till the morning to see what they have got to say, I am sticking by my guns, and still only going to take out part delivery, a few others in the office are doing the same, I slipped a few times with chains on but never went over, but my back really is hurtin, from the accident in the summer.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: The "How was your day" thread.
Knackered and very tired after delivery today, streamed every damm thing that I could, only took out 1st class and a handful of packets that could go through doors, conditions underfoot same as they have been for the last two weeks.Ended up with 8 trays of mail and a york of packets left
Kudos to the lads and lasses in the office who streamed today, one lad has 16 trays of mail and a york of packets beside his frame
,our rep(gawd bless em) has left 15 trays of mail.
Things cant go on like this for much longer, packets in our D.O have been lying since before Christmas, think someone should take some photos and send them to the press

I wonder if RM has begun to recruit and vet casual labour to assist with the inevitable backlog in order to maintain the best possible service once conditions improve?
Or will profit reign supreme ,and service quality and employee welfare come a poor second yet again?
Bit of a litmus test for the new management culture of co-operation ,respect and fair workload assessment .

Very busy Saturday and still difficult underfoot. Monday was a little easier walking as the snow has finally started to thaw. Mail wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be.

All deliveries suspended in Huddersfield
Let us go at 1030 if we wanted.
Conditions are terrible, just round where I live 1 woman air lifted to hospital after going through her windscreen, 1 Fireman killed after loosing control of car, it went through a wall and rolled. All buses suspended and numerous reports of major pile ups at junctions on both major and minor roads caused because of black ice.
Be careful out there.
